I knew it! There was also a G81 test mule running on those center locks.

This is the caveat. Coolness…..at a price. It's the one thing about the GT3 and Carrera GTS that is bothersome. The wrench alone is about $2500!!!

It's the first thing I did on my GTS build, option 5 lug wheels !

This a prime example from BMW how to capitalize and make money on stuff ppl don't need. Just cause it looks cool doesn't mean it's a good idea on a regular basis.

Anyone have a picture of the roof rack accessory attachment needed to carry the wrench?

Not really, it seem to be just an adaptor that attaches to original wheel studs to accept a center locking wheel spline. Added unnecessary complications on a street car probably just so posers would pay for two sets of wheels (the original and center locking).

I'm not even trying to shit on BMW's endeavors and I get that this is optional but as @Tag mentioned, they could of used the R&D invested in this to maybe replace those baby dick rear calipers over something a little more brawny, since the one of actual reasons center locking wheels are used is to accommodate larger calipers.

Ohhhh I didn't realize that. @BMW
BMW should've just gone the distance on this one.

Sure, if you want to go for a spin with the gun or don't need your hands anymore…no matter what…it definitely will be a hard pay to play

Completely unnecessary move by BMW…in 2 years - nobody used that…not available anymore…

In one of the images it's stated that all that is required is a wheel bearing replacement.

I think it is cool but can also be a pain. What is you need AAA? Would they have the tools to help you out? Are we as owners (prospective) expected to own these tools to change our wheels? What about going to our mechanics and not the dealership...would our mechanics have these tools? I would think the mechanics would but what about the other scenarios?

Looks cool but may be more trouble than its worth.
This is the biggest PIA of this. I had a 911 turbo S with centerlock wheels…only two options to take off a wheel for any reason were to either own the special tool from Porsche or take it to the Porsche dealer…neither are ideal for what is a really simple task. It does look cool, but outside of racing not sure there is a reason for
It.

Oh wow, it's an even more complex mod than I originally assumed..

I'm really having a hard time seeing the advantage to this intricate change, other than maybe regaining some bragging rights at Cars & Coffee, towards all the Porsche 911 dudes that made you feel insecure. 🙄

Nothing new here. People fitted DTM center lock hubs to their E30 M3, many decades ago.

Cool nontheless.

I did the next best thing, or better yet, best of both worlds. BBS RS. All the looks of center lock wheels, without any of the hassles of center lock wheels. Win-win.

These make absolutely no sense on a 2 series. For those of you that work at BMW shops, sorry about this news.

I used to have a set of TSW “pin drive” wheels that came with a centre lock conversion and a huuuuge wrench. It was cool back then and relatively little work to remove wheels.
