I hope it's a i6 hybrid, but the engine bay is cramped enough lol. And based on the new c63 news, a 4 banger hybrid seems more likely.

They look like the wheels produced by Carbon Revolution.

If so, they are VERY light.

The Mustang GT500/350 have these wheels.

If they bring the touring to the US, I'm definitely buying one. Can't wait.

There was talks of two different M variants of the M5, a pure EV and a gas hybrid model. Technically the EV version would be an i5 M and the gas model the "traditional" M5 nomenclature.
Better take some fuel. Or else.

Unlikely bmw has a bunch of hybrid 6s in the pipeline and by the time the next gen M3 Shows up they will have had different iterarions of those motors.

Bmw makes the best I6 on the market and I don't see that changing.

Shouldn't matter, EVs have made weight somewhat irrelevant. You now have a 9,000lb hummer doing 0-60 in 3 seconds

For a daily drive it's very relevant. I'm pretty sure in the next few years almost all car maker will have an electric car with sub 3 seconds 0-60. So nothing special about that.
What is more important is the car handling, which is disproportionately related to its weight. The handling define joy of driving, not 0-60.

The main design challenge is to achieve M-level at driving dynamics. V8+electric power drain will easily create enough power for the straight line performance. But it will make car extremely heavy: 5 series body + V8 + 4-wheel drive + batteries = !!!

The M5 CS shows how much skimming 100 kg improves the car. What happens if you put extra 300 kg on standard M5??

I hope they test-drive the mule enough before launch decision :-)

0-60 defines the joy for me, not handling. Unless your tracking your car, what's the point of handling? Get around that minivan going 10mph under?

So then just go and get a Plaid and have all the joy in the world. Why bother with anything else?

Yay for you - we'll be sure to offer a cookie when you win that stoplight race.

Sure speed is great but there's so much more to a driving experience than just the 0-60. If engagement, which to me means a connection to the road and the car, isn't your thing, than so be it, but it is to so many and it is what is missing in todays cars. They just "float" down the road.

The current news and statements so far are pointing towards a full EV next generation M3/4. They extended production of the current one by two years, so unlikely that we see a hybrid in 2029…

I guess that is the 2022 motorist version. Tesla will love customers like you.

My guess is that the new M5 will have rear wheel steering. This should help with dynamics and curves. This is how the Mercedes GT 63 and Panamera beat the M5 on track runs despite being heavier and slower in straight line acceleration.

I may be alone in saying this, but these new cockpit displays just don't do it for me. I miss the traditional cockpit. I realize that BMW will realize some significant cost savings with the new approach, but it just looks velcroed on to me. TMMV.

More to the point re. this new--and somewhat bulbous, as far as the camo suggests--incarnation of the M5: what will a hybridised V8 sound like, exactly? Answer: As subdued as they can possibly make it, I'd wager, if the European F90 LCI is anything go by and in anticipation of even more stringent sound regs by the time this new model hits the public roads. Going to 60 in 2.5 secs starts to mean very little in a car that relies almost entirely on ASD for acoustic character-enhancement. Maybe BM will work wonders with the exhaust, but the current direction of (generally muting) travel isn't encouraging. We'll see!
