So many questionable decisions by BMW the last few years 😔
Like seriously not. Tell that to all the GT3 manual buyers lined up…

Or how bout I turn the tables and ask you to get over the DCT silliness, auto is where it’s at these days.

Choice is king.

I agree that choice is king. I however disagree that planetary autos are “it”. There’s a reason why the vast majority of high-end/super/hyper sports cars still use DCT.

Everyone wants to buy mine second hand. People send me PM's weekly asking when I am turning it in and what the payout is. People want these cars, but at a 10% markup and not a 40% markup.

I made a deal to sell mine yesterday. Handing it over tomorrow.

The market is still hot, but not nearly as hot as it was a month ago. Although, I'm selling to a dealership and not a private party.

Are you really trying to use displacement as a means to quantify the new engine being lighter? It's going to be DOHC so it's going to be physically larger than the compact LT2 which is smaller than DOHC V8's like the Mustang Coyote 5.0. I don't claim to be an automotive engineer but it's pretty common knowledge that pushrod V8's are smaller and lighter than DOHC V8's.

So apart from some carbon bits and a mild power bump what is this really offering? The 8AT is not a performance gearbox regardless of the tuning, given the 'L' supposedly stands for lightweight they could easily justify a manual.

I am driving mine another 2-3 weeks until my shoulder is healed (my G80 is 6MT) then turning it in.

Mine was involved in a fender bender when road debris took out my bumper so it's not going to sell well. I'm turning it in.

G82 has become too heavy, too big and too ugly, this car will be no different. It will probably save weight on the hood and lightweight doors (maybe 100lbs)

$150k (+markup) at least - they won't make that many for sure (like the GTS).

At that price point might as well walk over to the porsche dealer and buy a real car or get that gorgeous lotus Emira.

What a bunch of cry babies I read here it's hilarious, the car will be too big, too fat, too slow, too undertired, will not have a good residual, will not have a real transmission bla bla and it goes on for hours.

I bet a lot of GTS owners have been super happy with there ownership as mostly all CS owners. If your not interested in the car stop whining like a pussy about it.

I will reserve all judgement until I can actually drive one or drive the car I would order, yes reading/watching reviews helps but it's no absolute. If I don't intend to buy one I don't go around forums wasting my time complaining about something I will never own.

I see this happen when people have either too much time on there hand or have a too comfortable living, they complain about everything. Please stop the whining they are all great peice of engineering and we are lucky to live in an age we can enjoy it.

It's just not a polished look. Some like it, some love it - more power to them. me, not so much. It's all subjective, but anything besides 'great' is not a winning answer when 80k-90k+ is on the line, IMO.

The G8x has presence, no doubt, but so does Gilbert Grapes' mother - I know that neither are coming home for a night with me, even more so if I have to pay for it.

I probably shouldn't have been so dramatic myself. You're right, everyone has their opinion.

I actually rented a white M4 on Turo from a fellow poster and love AW on these cars.

Optional headlights?!

Those rascals from M should rather offer an optional "classic & tasteful M bumper"..

The power gains barely impressive for a turbo, and the "L" in CSL obviously a joke in a ~3600lbs pig. Perhaps downsizing the nose can shave 100 pounds?
Pricing this close to a GT3 is brave indeed and of course a non-starter given it's lighter weight and NA power plant...

I debated on the C8 or the M4. The G82 won, because I was able to get the first allocation at my local dealership. But I will admit the C8 has an hell of a street presence when see it on the road. GM did a DAMN good job with the C8!!

Torque converter auto is DEF not where it's at. The ZF is a very good auto, but it still has noticeable lag in the shift speed and couple that with turbo lag and the overall experience is less than ideal. BMW copped out with that BS statement about the DCT not being able to handle high HP engines, blah, blah.

Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari, Ford, and all the other exotic and hyper car manufacturers will never put a ZF in place of a dual clutch.

I won't disagree with choice being king, no arguments there.

Looks to have good seats, half cage, rear seat delete, duckbill rear spoiler. I'd like to see a vented bonnet ala gts.

Lets not forget that my car has 600ps and 700nm with the M-DCT

Edit - thinking about it some more (even though the F10 M5 and F06/12/13 M6 6MT had 680nm and the new gearbox appears to be the same) if the new gearbox is limited to 550nm, you make 540ps (I know ynguldyn said 540hp, but I'm guessing it is actually 540ps) at 7000rpm.

I'd be happy with 550nm from 2650rpm to 7000rpm with 540ps made from 7000-7200rpm if the redline needs to remain at 7200rpm due to limitations of the S58 engine. Of course it might be able to go higher too.

I would hope the CSL also has a roll cage, carbon buckets, adjustable dampers, etc., which means the price tag should be at or beyond that of the previous gen GTS.

I would hope they keep the CS at or below the $100k mark, though I would love for them to be priced around $120k once loaded up again and sit on the lots untouched for several months. The timing will work out to be able to steal one of those when my current steal of a lease is due up.

The real issue with this entire platform is the lack of DCT but that has been discussed far too much already. The questions I have are will there be a CS and CSL? If not there goes BMW creating confusion again right when we thought it would be Base-Comp-CS-CSL. The second question for CS and CSL is about weight. Let's hope they shed some.
I agree with you on manual comments. Been driving manual for 10 years and track my car quite a bit. If we're talking about a car to be used on track I think DCT or similarly quick auto transmission is the way to go as it's one less thing to think about and shifts faster. I'm honestly shocked there is any expectation for this car to have a manual at this point.
