Lightbulb Very Special G82 M4 Edition Coming -- Possibly 50 Jahre M4 (50th Anniversary Edition)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
From the update in the Future BMW Models Info Thread:

A very special limited edition M4 will be produced for just a few months starting 11/22. It will be mostly configured like the CSL but with manual transmission, several options (comfort access, parking sensors, electric seats) deleted, and the forged wheels off G81. I don't know the exact model designation.

Yes, it does look like something built for the occasion, and it's not CSL. I said "configured like the CSL".

This puts me in an awkward position as I have put down a substantial deposit for a CSL. In essence though, I'd be looking for the manual transmission more so than the auto CSL (which as you've correctly pointed out is not a CSL)

Decisions decisions

This! I just picked up my X5MC from bis and added my name to the "I want a csl" list that ideally would be the first or second allocation they get (since I'm such a blind and loyal bmw customer lol).

But deposit, hmm, the car has not even been officially announced yet so yea; but hey if your good with a deposit then roll with it.

They probably have a bunch of extra MT lying around and decided to repurpose them into another tacky special edition model. Jahre, heritage edition, all the same tasteless junk. Go with a comp model or all out CSL

They're not taking deposits for a car per se, but some may be willing to take your money to hold your spot in line with the assumption they'll be getting or at least able to get an allocation. It's all really just asking for someone to whine and complain, so many dealers won't do it, will only do it for loyal customers (without a deposit if loyal enough), etc. If you do put money on the idea of something existing... just make sure you get it in writing and that it's fully refundable.

It's hard to fathom how BMW claims a 6MT is not offered with the Competition package because the Getrag unit can't handle the extra torque, but then they'll magically make it work (technically and financially) for a super-low volume special edition... unless that special edition does not in fact make CSL-level power.

Will this have the same power level as the CSL since the 6MT has a torque limit of 550nm? Will it have a back seat?

This surely can't be a Jahre edition M4. The model hasn't even been around for a decade

The G8X uses the ZF S6-53 manual transmission that is rated at 600Nm by ZF. BMW isn't willing to use this transmission on an unlimited production car with more Nm than the manufacturer is rating the transmisson at, imagine if in a few years a ton of G8X needs a new manual transmission because BMW didn't follow the ZF rating, that will cost BMW a lot ton of money. But on this limited production car BMW could be willing to ignore the rating, because even if there are failures, it won't have much to say because of the limited amount.

Is that your bright red engine cover next to this post?

Jokes aside they've certainly earned that cynicism from past 'special models' but it does sound like there could be some meaningful changes to hardware and focus this time around. Looking forward to seeing where they take this. Might very well be an 'all out CSL' with 6MT.

What's your source for this? I've read that they use the Getrag 6MTI550, but that was in another thread so I don't know for certain. Regardless...

Have you ever met a German engineer? No way would they would approve a car--a halo special edition no less--whose engine output exceeded the maximum torque rating for the transmission.

Sounds like it's possible this has CSL lightweighting but is manual with non-M4 comp engine power (ie 473 hp, 406 lb-ft).

This is 2021, people need to stop dreaming that a major German car manufacturer will make a new manual transmission for a car built in super low production numbers.

Anyone thinking that seriously could happen, you need to have your head examined.

Lol touché! It's imola red to match the car if that makes it any better. True, if a MT CSL was released it would be hard to resist.

I believe the trademark filed is for "50 JAHRE BMW M"

They could just add the model designation behind it on whatever special model(s) they want

The M3 and M5 had celebratory models for their 30 year anniversaries, but 2022 being the 50 year anniversary for BMW M GmbH, i think any model could get the designation
