The oils are lighter for engine break in, and you might have some metals in there being chewed around. I've heard of people getting guff on the warranty if they go way over.

All in all I'd just say it's a risk. One I personally wouldn't take, but you gotta do what you gotta do. If you go forward w it, just go easy.

I'd consider spending the weekend somewhere and then continuing journey back home. From what I've read online you might void the warranty.

I really lucked out. There was 1 dealership sort of on my way that has their service department open for a few hours today. Plotted my travel to arrive just as they open and explained the situation. They are going to slot me in now for the break-in service at 708 miles. Unexpected stop but should be back on my way in 2 hours or so!

Out of precaution, I may do another oil and diff fluid change once I arrive at my final destination which should be around 2,800 miles.

Oy. Took the car in to get some tint issues and the steering wheel replaced. I thought I should have been getting service done too, as an appointment was made for it.

971 miles, they wouldn't do the service.

I don't believe this is true. Based on some testing, I should have an answer here in the next week.
My new car is already passed break in miles, but due to scheduling difficulties I don't have an appointment till Monday for break in service.
I have done some testing already.

I don't think the engine has limited power during break-in. But I am sure the transmission torque limiter is heightened at lower rpm during break-in. Meaning if you floor it from 45mph upward, I am sure you will have full power, but below that and from launch, the torque limiters in the drivetrain is more aggressive.
This limiters are raised at the break in service. This is likely what they mean by unlocking the car's full power.

I will have definitive proof in a week (if this is so).

EDIT: I came from AMGs with no break in scheduled service. However, the car has less low end power during break-in in miles and will not allow launch control during that time.
Once you pass the break in miles, launch control is automatically released by the car's ECU (preprogrammed to be available after 1000 miles).
My tests on that was launching from stop without launch control right before the mileage hit and recording two draggy runs. Then doing the same thing after break-in (also no launch control). Trap speeds remained the same, but almost half a second reduction in quarter mile times on average (high 11s to mid 11s, remember no launch control/race start used).

Its True, I myself have done it with both my M3 and X3M as well as many others I know in the X3M/X4M chat.
My M3 is a 22, and X3M was a 2020 so unless they changed something for 23+ you will have full power right off the lot.

I'm not telling anyone to not follow break in BTW, lol.

Guys there are zero limiters or restrictions right off the factory floor. It is specified in the technical manual for the platform (which is an amazing resource that has been posted here before and you should search the forum to find it ) that even launch control is not restricted prior to breakin and they recommend not using it for a few thousand miles.

Let me know your findings im curious to see if they changed anything. I have my dragys with 450 miles on the car at the time. ET and Trap are identical to the day before I tuned it.

For my BMW with 900-1000 miles on the car. Two runs from stop, one run with launch control.
The trap speeds are very very high for the ETs I got though. If this is the best this car can do after break-in, would mean my 2021 E63s is faster than my M8c stock for stock (ET only not trap speeds). Would also mean the AMG launches better and harder than the M and I seriously doubt that based on everything I've seen online about these two cars.

Car is back from break in service, the tech did come and introduce himself. But he and service advisor said the same thing, took the car out of run-in mode which should release all the available power.

Car was smoother driving back to the office but nothing else noted.

Okay so I have some mixed results from testing. I will.attach draggy screenshots soon

Pre break-in service:
11.37@125.47mph and 11.38 @125.99mph with secondary downpipe, bmc filter with charcoal filter removed.

Post break-in service:
11.54@126.90mph. There was severe wheelspin cos right as I lined up to take off, the drips of rain started. My 0-60mph was 4.26seconds lol and 60' was 2.15 (compared to 1.7-1.9 from the pre service times listed above)

Trap speeds went up, not what I expected, but traction was severely limited which I think was weather related.
More post break-in service testing coming up soon

Note: all the runs.abpve were without launch control, little stalling at around 1500rpm was all I did. Sport plus everything, trans in D3.

Edit: This is on a 2023 M8 coupe. Also weather here in Texas is in the high 90s and low 100 degrees all month with DA near 3000 ft on all the runs recorded here.
This thread is one of the better threads on this site addressing the question about break-in service
