The M3 is one of the best if not the best sports sedan on the market. Jack of all trades.

If you like the looks and need 4 doors it's hard to beat for all around use

There is a massive overall difference between GT3 and Turbo S and that is translated to the off-the-line performance.

On the other hand, Carrera S and Carrera 4S are almost two identical cars (so is the performance), and actually in some metrics the 4S is slightly inferior to S model, including track performance!

There is a 17% power difference stock on my GT3 vs Turbo S.

That's about the same as the base 992 Carrera vs the 4S.

And similarly, the RWD models can outpace their AWD counterparts at certain tracks. The high speed tracks will usually favor those with more power.

Yes, that base Carrera is performing almost exactly like the S model?!

Almost the same gap between the two cars of the dig, and almost the same gap in the rolling race!

Nice for a base, cheaper than the M3 and likely faster around a track. Just less practical and with less features/luxury. M3 is a more rounded option, but the 911 is less compromised in the sports area.
Actually, the M3/4 is faster around the track than the base Carrera and almost as fast as the Carrera S!

With the AWD M3/4 is going to be as fast, and maybe even faster on some tracks, but the real competitor for the S model is going to be CS (price vise) that is most definitely going to be faster around most tracks.

That is exactly the point I was talking about (there is obvious performance difference), but the difference is even bigger between the GT3 and Turbo S, since one car is naturally aspirated and the other has turbo engine (boost and torque difference).

Looking at the numbers, the difference between S and 4S is negligible regarding acceleration.
Not the case with the RWD and AWD M3/4.

The comparison in this thread is a base Carrera with 385 hp and the 4S has 450 hp.

My GT3 and Turbo S are 475 and 560.

Do the math that's about the same delta of ~ 17%.

I have no problem with that, I was commenting on your response to tna3 claim.

Wrong. When power levels get high enough, AWD has a major advantage. Even in the dry. I have performed many accel tests.

How many and what kind of 911's do you own?

I will just quote myself:

I thought that was more than obvious that I was talking about Carrera (992), and I have presented the links with the best measured numbers for both versions of the car and the difference is negligible.

If you have the numbers for the S and 4S you can share it with us because I have never own 911 and probably never will because I don't have a soft spot for the Porshe (but I do have it for the M4 )

Yes the 911 starts better but M3 is quicker. 911 is awesome track car but can not compare with M3 in overall. First the looks. M3 looks masculine. M3/M4 are best looking cars nowdays in my opinion. M3 has better engine too. In everyday driving is quicker also and way more usable. Thumbs up for BMW.

New RS3 is better IMO

4 doors. Not the size of an old 5 series, still remains smaller and nimble. Also not ugly and asiafied
