It was the service advisors speculation from past experiences and his reasoning. Of course he doesn't know for certain. I just asked for his opinion on the matter and thats what he told me.

Just so I understand, 3-6 months from now I would drop my car off at the dealer and they will spend a few days replacing the engine during which I will have a loaner? Surely this isn't I drop my car off now and have to wait 3-6 months to pick it up...

I would love for that to be the case, but I think the scenario (if it did actually play out as a replacement) would be to drop your car off and see it again in 3-6 months. Total speculation by me, but I'd expect if BMW deemed you needing an engine replacement (which is pretty significant), that they wouldn't want/let you just drive it until they called to say "hey, your engine is here and ready to be installed."

One of the classes I took at Georgia Tech was a seminar on manufacturing, basically a different industry speaker every week. The auto dude had data showing that the peak # of issues is year 1, then year 2, then the last year when the A team is working on the next generation.

That said I bought a new year car because these days the manufacturers are forced to take care of their customers. They have a lot of oversight and legal obligation. My 2013 550i had oil leaks to the point I was eligible for a new engine. For oil leaks that forced me to add a quart of oil 3-4 times a year. I had all 8 injectors replaced ($10K charge) because they came to realize the 10% ethanol in the US was going to be a long term problem.

Anyway I bought this car knowing that it would have issues. If I wanted something bullet proof I would have gotten a Honda. Nothing about this upsets me, because they are taking care of it.

The way things are going right now (supply chain delays, Covid, etc.), I think you're right - it's going to be a wait of 3-6 months (probably closer to 6 months) if they have to do an engine replacement - meaning they'll take the car from you and you don't see it till Q1/Q2 2022 - at which point MY2023's are close to coming out.

This sucks - my car just arrived at the dealership and has the engine stop sale tagged on it.

All I know is, I better get a sweet fuckin loaner and some $ reimbursement if they're gonna have my car for 6 months!

They may do this and prioritize dates or engine blows before

G80 G82 G83 Engine (S58) Main Bearing Shell Recall / Stop Sale

Given that there is a somewhat sizeable community experiencing this main bearing shell recall, it may help with pressure to ensure commitment to customer satisfaction equal to the seriousness of the issue.

The challenge is that (as per a forum member who has an X3m that was affected) when the engine replacement happened as a result of the Nov 2020 X3m rod bearing recall, there was no additional actions (extended warranty etc.) taken by BMW except the engine replacement. In that situation the car was only at the dealer for one week for all the work to be completed.

For an experienced tech, it really is not a big deal. I'd be relieved to have the issue addressed via a recall rather than unaddressed and punted into the future via extended warranty.

I wouldn't accept anything that wasn't an M tbh. I'd go rogue and they would have to chase me all the way to South America to get the car back.

Lol. I just got a visual of you driving away flipping the bird heading to Mexico!!

I'd roll around in a 7 or 8 for a bit if I had to but an M (if even possible), would be what I'd be demanding. My luck, due to what the car industry is, the dealer will have sold all of its loaners and they'll be chauffeuring me around in their courtesy van for 6 months.

Me: "Hi, it's me again, I have a dentist appointment at 3 pm and my wife asked me to pick up milk on the way home. Can you pick me up at my office at 2:30 pm and drive me around the rest of the day?"
SA: "We'll see you then sir. Also, are we on for pickup tomorrow at 7:30 am?"

This sucks booty.

I live in SF. Saturday I drove my g80 m3 up to Fairfield to sell for the best price. From there i ubered up to Roseville to pick up my X3M in my desired spec. Signed all the papers, numbers looked great, car was ready to go, but right before I was about drive it home, stop sale. Left me stranded in Roseville for an hour before I could get a ride home. They’re holding the car for me, but it’s not technically mine yet.

I guess this is my penance for a being a BMW driver lmao. I was looking at a genesis g70, and it’s a nice car, but it’s just not comparable. Guess I’ll order my aftermarket parts and just wait.

Sorry for those affected, I am guessing you will be recalled soon.

Could this explain why some week 39 and week 40 builds are stuck in QC for a number of days?
Sad…just had my car for 1200miles….
Was build on 08/2021

Garage List
My car is at Quality Check station & has this listed:

0065480300", "defectCodeDescription": "Retrofitting the receiver audio module"

Will this stop the build process or will they keep on finishing the car & let the radio catch up later?

I wonder if he meant the short block. I've also heard that instead of doing a full engine swap replacing just the short block is a possibility. And I would assume it is a lot easier to do. All just speculation here.

You're still at the factory and seeing a stop sale? I thought most didn't get added until they were on a ship.

I had previously confirmed my stop sale regarding this on the UK site (but not shown on the US site). Car is currently on a ship. I had an ongoing inquiry on my vehicle with customer relations and was contacted today by them stating that I do have the stop sale. They have no further information at this time. Just adding another data point and confirmation that the uk site is correct… fml

Hi Guys - QQ. Does anyone know what it means if the UK site comes back with enhancement code "STOP021954" but the US site shows NO open recall? I am confused and wondering which one is correct. Is there a time difference in updating the system on the US side so it's showing up as no recall? I also tried contacting my dealer but has not heard back yet.

Thank you all in advance for your help and sorry if I missed some threads. Lastly, congrats to those who are not affective by this.

You're in the same boat as the rest of us who are affected. The US site hasn't updated yet for whatever reason. The info on the UK site is apparently correct and we're just waiting for more info.

Welcome to your new home (thread). Settle in.
