The typical recommendation of getting an alignment when getting new tires centers around the assumption you are getting new tires every 4-5 years, and getting an alignment every few years makes some sense.
Ya, I never had to get an alignment when swapping on/off winter sets on either of my last two bimmers. My last M4 I even used the wheels I had originally purchased for my 335is. The offset was a bit kooky and but since the tires are balanced on the wheel there were never issues.

I would agree!

100% alignment in this case is not necessary.

Changing wheels/tires does not change the relationship of the suspension components, you are correct. An alignment corrects the angles of the tires so that they come into contact with the road in just the right way...so when you change anything with wheels/tires, you are effectively putting new wheels/tires on suspension components configured for "other" wheels and tires.

Does that mean it's always necessary, absolutely not.

Suspension isn't configured for a certain set of wheels and tires, alignment is to a spec... Unless we're talking track stuff. The geometry of the suspension is still the same. If factory spec says one thing they you align the car at that spec. Not aligning each specific corner of the car to the new tire.

Alloy wheels direct has the 963M wheel sold as 19/fronts and 20/rears - pardon if this is a dumb question but would it be possible to use the 19s all around as a square set up?

Picked these up. They DO NOT fit. Too small still.

So I just put them on my wife's M2C.

Thanks for the heads up, i didn't think they made a center cap size bigger than 72.6mm. guess my search continues.

Has anyone come up with any other economical solutions for winter wheels? Tire rack is currently showing only 2 remaining of the rims Forza1976 has and not getting more until 1/28/22.

While it's not my first choice, I'll probably just get Sottozero 3s for the stock 826Ms... I wanted to avoid swapping tires on and off the same wheels but I can't wait until late January for more wheels and I really don't want to pay upwards of $4k for the OEM 892M set.

How much is a set of the 826ms and where are they available?

Hello,

Sorry English is not my mother tongue. I'm here because more active than EU forum.

For sure it fit and geometry is ok.

What I mean is " does it fit well from a stylistic point of vue"

Usually offset is not the same and wheel are "inside" the arch wheel.

IF you check out the sponsored classifieds on this site you'll find a couple of vendors that sell the OEM wheels and the OEM winter wheels & tire package.

I plan on just buying tires and swapping summer rubber for winter rubber and vice versa.. maybe once the car is more popular I'll pick up another set of 19/20 OEM wheels off a member here and mount the winters on them.

Understood

I expect they'll look different, as you say within the wheel arch more than the default wheels. They are narrower, so the correct suspension geometry requires with both directions from where the wheel is attached to the car. The only way to have it look exactly the same in terms of how flush it is with the outside wheel arch is same wheel/tire width or using spacers.

Same width isn't ideal for winter traction in snow, and a spacer isn't ideal for maintaining correct suspension geometry.

100% ok with you.

I've received a quote from my BMW dealer.

I will buy them, it seems more than mandatory regarding the torque on only 2 RWD on wet / cold conditions.

I picked up the 68mm ones on eBay. They are held onto the plastic disc with 4 metal arms, just remove the metal arms and use double sided tape (built up 4 layers) and place on top of the stock Type 130 center caps. They look perfect on the wheel.

For sure, I did the same with some cheapies from Amazon too. I cut the edges off however to make them more flush. Only adjustment I made.

Don't see too many great aftermarket choices...
Did this ever get answered? Have the same question myself.

No, I never got any answers, but I suspect the rears would probably fit all around. I ended up ordering the whole OEM setup just to avoid any possibility of issues. Not sure when they'll come in, but I was tired of thinking about it, and I wanted to make sure I have a winter set before it's too late...

I would think so too. I got sick of thinking about this as well - I was about to pull the trigger on 4 rear 829Ms but then saw that they are cast and not forged wheels and decided an aftermarket setup at a much lower cost would work.
I noticed tire rack now has some 20” square setup options listed under their winter wheel/tire packages for the G80/G82/G83 so I ordered some 20x9.5 MSW 50’s with vredestein 275/30/20 snow tires. I know the 20s aren’t ideal size for winter rims, but they look good and I’m sure it’ll do just fine in 90% of the snowstorms here in CO. Whole thing including TPMS, mount and balance, and taxes was under $2500 shipped to my door.
