Love the 911 GTS. I'm thinking the 911 S would work also, since they both have the widebody now. How about you get an M3 now and the Porsche later? Two cars is better than one right? I think that's what I want to do. It's even hard to get an allocation for the 911 S. A year out or so. And the preowned cars are going for more than a new one. GT3 would most likely have to be a preowned purchase.

FWIW, I have a 997.2 Carrera S and am absolutely in love with it. Came from a Golf R, M2, and X3MC before it. I still enjoy driving M cars, but the 911 just feels more special. Hard to describe, it has more of a personality / character.

I have a G80 M3C on order, which will serve as my daily. Can follow up with more detailed thoughts after I’ve lived with the G80 for a little bit.

Blasphemy I know but I didnt fall in love with my manual 21 C2S...great car for a fun low miles drive but other than that a liability in many ways for me...road noise/drone, space, attention, worry...lol

Unfortunately haven't been able to replace in this market tho.

How was the fun factor of your 911 compared to M3/M4?

I have to say it was so fast that I was worried about being arrested every time I drove it! I had come from a 17 M3 so it was effortlessly dangerous.

I get that. I had a stripped out 987 that was fully track specced. Problem I then ran into was unless it was at the track it completely lacked character. Just so good at anything but 10/10 or 11/10 it was boring haha!

Keep the street spec if you want it to show that character!

There have been quite a few threads of the G vs 992/911. I do have both a G80X as most of you know and a 992 GTS (no GT3 but a nice street warrior).

I have some thoughts here about my ownership of both:

Watch the Savagegeese review of the GTS in the north Georgia mountains. They make a strong case that the GTS is better and faster than the GT3 in daily driving. If you don't need practicality, and if you don't mind daily driving a 911, then I'd go for the 911. Obviously quite a bit more $$.

I had 991.2 GTS and 991.2 GT3, now 992 GT3. They are two different cars, yes GTS is as fast as the GT3, but they are in a completely different planet of feelings; every time you push a GT3 it makes you smile, and the vibration, the sound, all a different experience, not for all people. If you have sofas, you can daily drive a PDK gt3 without any doubt; they are getting more refined each time (I have manual plus buckets...but is a weekend car)

I agree with this 10000% its a totally different feeling. I had a 991.1 GT3 and the feeling any other 911 gives you isn't the same. Weather they are faster or not doesn't matter because of how special they are otherwise.

Sucks you can't have a GT3 with back seats, at least as a OEM option..

NA GT car experience honestly is as good as it gets within reason. And if you want big (turbo) power and like the GT car experience then the GT2RS is quite the car too. I have loved all my 911s (.1S, .14S, .2S, .2T) but my first and now current 718 GT4 are just a better driving experience and hard to say there is a better experience for the money (120-150K range). Only car that will be a strong contender is the new Z06.

So a car that cost twice the price of a M3/4 is better, what a surprise.

Maybe someone should start a Honda Accord vs M3 thread.

They are a whole different class of car, even comparing them speaks volumes about how good the G8X actually are. Having said that, I'd take the GT3 as a drivers car any day of the week.

Yea I agree with that. It’s come up on multiple reviews how it compares to GT3 which is crazy in itself.

They really should have made rear seats an option with the Touring package. Would have built in more differentiation and filled a big hole for us family people.

I just sold my 991.2 Carrera T w/ 7-speed manual and have an M3 base on order. I test drove the M3 for all of 15 minutes, so can’t really compare.

There are some fun twisty roads here in the Bay Area, and when I drove them with the Porsche it was a lot of fun. However, that type of driving only made up around 5% of the total driving I do. And for the other 95%, the Porsche wouldn’t be ideal for me.

I realize some consider a GT3 an acceptable daily driver, but I think these individuals are the exception versus the norm. For me, even the 991.2 wasn’t super livable as a daily.

Not super easy to get in and out of, ride was a bit stiff, worried about scraping the front lip all the time, only fit two people, couldn’t fit anything sizable in the frunk, bit high strung, etc.

I think the M3 will be a much more comfortable daily driver with a ton more practicality and a nicer interior, while still being exciting to drive.

FWIW, the sale of the Porsche was triggered by me giving my son my daily driver, which was a VW GTI Sport w/ 6MT. Having the GTI and 991.2 was a great combo. Choice from there was to use the Porsche as my daily, buy a new daily to replace the GTI, or sell the Porsche and buy one car that would do it all, which is what I decided to do.

Now that I’m thinking about this topic, I’m wondering why Porsche hasn’t ever introduced a mid-size sports sedan. If they did, that would likely be quite compelling. Hmm.

They did, it's called the Macan.

In all seriousness, it is a car-like platform and performs very much like a car when you drive it, with the room akin to a station wagon and Compact Utility Vehicle, or whatever they're called. We test drove one as a loaner and it was a riot to drive. I wouldn't get one over an M3 though.

Pretty much, if I'd have to own only one car it would be a Macan GTS, it can tow my stuff (4400lbs rating) it as air suspension that you can raise when I go in the forest, it can do some track days without falling appart and it can carry the family albeit without much room to spare but you can help with a Thule on the top.

Not a sedan but to me even more practical. If you take all this into account the price isn't too bad too.

Yup. I definitely thought of the Macan when I wrote this, and I agree they are great. I got a few as a loaner as well. Still though, I think they would probably be able to sell quite a few sports sedans built on the Macan platform.
