Article states the 2024 M3/4 will be hybrid?

If the 2023 M2 is last ICE non-hybrid M car.... https://jalopnik.com/new-bmw-m2-will...ver-1849039470

I'd be down for that! A 48V on my friend's X3M40i is wonderful. Don't know if it'd sway me from getting the 2025 Cayman EV or something similar for my DD need, but it's tempting. No off-the-line lag with the same mid and top end shriek would be terrific.

I am not surpised as most OEMs are taking hybrid / EV route for platforms which are under development.

I can see the G8X being the last fully gas powered "3 / 4 series" M car but don't see it happening in 2024. My guess is the next M3/M4 will be a hybrid (at least) but that won't happen until 2026/2027 range.

Yeah, my read was this was the last new model introduced that won't be hybrid, so the H80 or whatever they call the M3 after this will be hybrid. Probably similar to how the XM's or C63's powertrain is set up.

I would be very surprised if they EOL the current G8x platform by 2024. I'd expect it to last at least 5-6 years, so the earliest I'd assume would be 2026. But who knows, it is all speculation.

I think they mean the new M2 is the last new ICE they will offer. I don't think that means the current M3/4 powertrains will change before they run their current life cycles.

We had insider hints here earlier that the G8X would get a gen2 MHEV for MY 2023 or 2024. This latest gen MHEV could possibly give the car an extra 40 hp. and help eliminate any turbo lag.

yuguldyn has a pretty good track record of noting BMW's future releases. They note the G80 M3 is expected to be in production until 06/27: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...hlight=g80+lci

Can they? Yes. Will they? Who knows. When I was in Portugal my rental car was a Ford Puma 6 speed manual. It was an eco boost hybrid mHEV. Honestly couldn’t really tell it was a hybrid. Amazing MPG though. I wouldn’t hate if the M3 manual had a similar set up.

My understanding is that the G8x powertrain will remain as-is until it sunsets in 2027. The next M3/M4 will be either a hybrid or BEV.

My 2022 is a hybrid. It burns gasoline and rubber.

The new gen X3M (G97) is due out before the next M3. I'm very curious to see what BMW does with that.
