It was a drastic change from hydraulic to first gen electric steering racks that were not up to M3 standards. Also hp gain was very small compared to e46 to e90 vs e90 to f80.

To me I don't like hydraulic and power steering pump on the track it's a mess, don't have to worry about that anymore in new generation M. I love all the m3 generation and each are drive and feel different not to say one are better than other. but to say f8x is a down grade I don't agree, I love the look of f80 more than the G80 but I don't think g80 is a down grade, g80 is a better car in anyway. And I do think f80 is better car than e9x. Owned 2011 e90 for 3 years and a lot of the time are in the shop. My older brother still have e36, e46, e92, f80 and waiting for g80cs, I still get to see those car sides by side and they are look good to me in every generation.

It also weighs 4700 lbs or about the size of a small planet.
And given recent mercedes reliability, it will probably spend half its days in the shop.
No thanks.

While I'm not a fan, this philosophy kind of make sense to me rather than carrying the "burden" of always available 680hp every minute of everyday driving.
100% agree with you. there's no use for it in everyday driving. I had a W205 C63S and that was unnecessary for driving to work. It all feels like Gimmicky to me. Who needs 8 driving modes and 4 brakes regen modes. 2 electric motors and A partridge in a Pear Tree. I'm off topic anyway.
