The M3 is newer, the 50 Jahre does give you a lot of options that would cost about the same if you ordered an M3 with individual paint etc., as long as you do not have to pay ADM. I would have liked for all Carbon bits though. If you feel the M3, tell them you will buy it at MSRP, there are plenty inbound it seems. I do have the same spec incoming and have been debating what many other folks said - do I build my own, which may be a couple of grand cheaper, or do I get the 50 Jahre now. On the other hand, if you finance your car, interest rates are going up and there goes some of the savings. I am also torn over Interlagos since the color seems much darker than other BMW blues, how did the car look in person in the dark lighting especially?

Both choices are good options and totally different. I have to say that one of the reasons I like the new M3 is its pretty aggressive look, insane HP with AWD, combined with Carbon Bucket seats, which was never available from the factory until the most recent iteration. For whatever reason, you see more M5s on the road than g80 M3s too.

Interlagos is one of the best colors I've seen on the G80.
Marina Bay Blue is one of the best BMW blues of all time.
The carbon bucket seats will be better for my track day activities but the M5 seats feel more like the right size for me.
I don't love iDrive 8, but I have a 2019 X5 so the M5 is almost too similar to justify the cost.

Specs for quick reference:

2022 BMW M5 Competition: 617 HP, 553 lb-ft from a 4.4L twin-turbo V8. 8-speed auto. AWD. 4237 lbs (per C&D). 0-60 in 2.8 seconds (per C&D). 1.0 g of skidpad grip (per C&D). 17 MPG combined. 196" L x 75" W x 58" H.
2023 BMW M3 Competition xDrive: 503 HP, 479 lb-ft from a 3.0L turbo I6. 8-speed auto. AWD. 3917 lbs (per C&D). 0-60 in 2.8 seconds (per C&D). 1.03 g of skidpad grip (per C&D). 18 MPG combined. 189″ L x 74″ W x 57″ H.

It really depends on what you will be using the car for. In my opinion the M5 competition is the best all around car. You can have plenty of fun with it and when it's time to relax it's an option as well.
The LCI also uses suspension components from M8 competition which drastically improved precision and feel of the suspension. Coupled with a few Dinan suspension pieces it becomes REALLY fun. I do straight line and track events with mine on the quest to obtain my race license.
I pull 1:54's at Fontana Roval which is on point with GT3's.

I love m3 but not with that price point, m5 with v8 can't go wrong, just like e9x all the people want it just for the engine sound.

Depends what you want. They're different cars. I like the growl of the V8, the B&W stereo, the relatively quiet cabin on the highway or around town when I want it, plus the comfier seats (imho). For $118, I'm not sure the F90 has the options I'd personally want that make it that much better, but it's still arguably the best all around car BMW makes right now. $112k is silly money for even a 50 Jahre car, plus I'm not on board with the design language or the interior UI.

I'd still go F90 here.

After driving both, I can assure you that the V8 feels so much more powerfull, efortless and instant than the L6.. And the M5C looks more discrete than the M3, which look a bit obscene IMO.

M5 all the way!!!!
Did I mention that it looks like a BMW too?
(And you get a proper interior that actually looks like a real cockpit)….

There is no comparison between the two.

Shocking, no Carbon Buckets and 50K over?

Agree with other posters, talk them into MSRP for the M3 and take that one. If not, get the M5. Two very very different cars with different purpose. I personally like the size of the M3 for a four door over the M5. M5 V8 is the other argument, nicer interior but not as special as M3 with Carbon Buckets.

Admittedly biased here, but this shouldn't even be a question if you've driven both. M5 is clearly the superior vehicle, especially based on your selection of vehicles.

Interior of the F90 feels a bit less modern than my G05

Interior of the F90 needs a bit less modern than my G05
I think you meant to say that it feels a bit less modern. That's a fair take, but still somewhat subjective. I'd even agree with you so much as to say that the F90 interior is a little more towards "classic" BMW. Some people may like that, some people may hate it. But taking the car as whole, the M5 is superior in almost every regard as compared to the M3, even if the interior feels somewhat dated to some.

I hope you finds what works for you, and whatever floats your boat is of course what you should go with. If the question was framed such that, "I want an M5, but my budget is more in line with an M3; should I get it?" I would say of course, it's an awesome car. But in the context of comparing the two? Again, there is no question if you've driven both and your budget allows for the M5.

I am not hating on the M3 — again, phenomenal automobile. But it's no M5.

That's right, it is more in line with classic BMW design. It was just some of the switchgear that felt like it came out of the F-series parts bin (because it did - it is an F90 after all). And I've come to conclude that after owning BMWs for 20 years (E36, E92, F30, E70, G05) I am ready for the future.

I haven't test driven the F90 M5 yet, though... I should probably do that before pulling the trigger either way.

I agree with you about the car's switchgear and the like, but I'm quite confident the intoxicating effect of the car will make you forget about all of that. As car buyers, and humans, we of course all like different things, but even if having something new and futuristic is high on your priority list, something happens to the rational part of you brain once you stomp down on that accelerator.

I think that the classic look is what some people like about the F90, especially with (valid) fears that hybridization (and a radically different future, as you said) is coming. I, like you, am also (to some extent) excited for the future. It's hard not to be when you see where BMW is going with in vehicle tech in their EVs (not that I'll be getting one). But a brawny ICE V8 is what sets the current generation apart from the M3 and what is to come — hybrid or otherwise.

Do yourself a massive favor and drive the M5 after driving the M3 (which perhaps you've already done). I really think that if you drive one, you'll see how much more of a visceral experience the F90 is, and that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts — no pun intended.
