the CS models do seem to hold up a bit better in the last few years but as they age they fall off quite a bit. New they were 104k now you can get them for 70k or less.

the M4 GTS on the other hand has fared much better considering it retailed for 133k and can only be had for around 90k. But it was a very low volume car
It depends on the specialness of the model. An M2 CS holds its value more than just about every late model bmw an m3/m4 cs less so mainly because they didn't make much sense over an m3/m4 comp. I think the m5 cs will go down as a special model because it truly is a better car than an m5 comp.

Fun decision to make. Are you planning on doing a lot of highway driving? That may give the edge to the M5. However, as pointed out the F90 is at the end of its life cycle while the G80 is at the beginning. The G80 is certainly big enough for most people (its as big as my E39 M5).

Overall, I'd give the edge to the M3 given all of the above. Now what would I do? Order a manual G80 for approximately $75K instead of the overpriced (IMO) 50 Jahre with its $10K dealer markup ().

GL! No regrets either way.

Best spec-ing your own and even going individual.
I have heard this before. Price out the options on the 50 Jahre.. It comes very close to what a similar optioned G80 X-Drive is. I do wish it could have been had with CF exterior (Canada did get CF exterior). There isn't much you don't get on the 50 Jahre, and some options might not be available when you order your G80 (according to availability). Not all buyers have to deal with ADM, and be it what it is, not everyone will have one.

Mine is sitting in Charleston waiting on train to PDC hopefully for 14 Oct delivery.

Fixed that for you.
I mean, yeah, if you are 22 years old the M3 is great. Always looks odd when I see someone older in an M3.

BMW last disclosed this in 2008: “M3 buyers are surprisingly young,” reports Larry Koch, M brand manager for BMW North America. “While the average age of a buyer is 41, many M3 buyers are in their mid-20s, and others are closer to 56 — older enthusiasts finally buying the car they've long wanted.”

The key point, however, is what you are using the X5 for on the other 360 days of the year… Speaking as an X5 owner— I couldn't function without the comfort, luxury and utility of that car… I don't think I could handle not having the 7 passenger version of the X5! We all use our vehicles for different things, but for some of us, our vehicle is a work horse first, then a race horse. If you're selling two cars to buy one, that car has to meet your needs for the 360 days first, and then the 6 days of track….
Oh to be 25 again, wondering why the m3 had those extra seats strapped in it— I only needed one!!
You have to begin a serious conversation with yourself as to whether the M3 will be able to fill the "work horse" role. For me, I rely on my wife's car to "pick up the slack" freeing me a bit to try something smaller. She will take delivery of her Rivian 7 passenger vehicle about the same time as I take delivery of my new i4 m50 …. When I need the size, we'll swap….
Any chance you have a wife that enjoys larger luxury SUVS….?

My other SUV is a Raptor. JDM mods and it is stupid fun, great for groceries. Rivian 7, definitely a carbon neutral vehicle, minus production cost and raw material carbon footprint, oh and electrical requirements..

The G80 is the last great ICE duel purpose track car from BMW. BMW will soon be all in on the EV circus (i4 m50 and others) . Hope the U.S. figures out the charging waypoints through the midwest, southwest, northern plains, southeast, Califorina, ect... Don't even think about going south to Mexico without a generator on the trailer hitch.

Didn't mean to go on a tangent, and congratulations Rivian.

Individual San Marino Blue Exterior
Silverstone Full Leather Interior
Style 825M Bi-Color Wheels
Carbon Fiber interior trim
Parking Assistance Package
Icon adaptive LED laser headlights
M Carbon Bucket Seats
Extended Shadowline Trim with M Shadowline Lights
Wireless Device Charging
$88,050 - $2000 incentives = $86,050

DO NOT SELL THE SHELBY GT350!! Keep it in the family, so you can get it back.

Save for a Porsche 911 GT3.

Cheers

neither!.. keep the GT350 and forget the two overpriced BMW whales.

The G87 M2 is coming out soon... and will be a much better buy.

I find the M5 just looks dated now. I'd go M3 but I'm biased as an '21 M4 owner.

Both are great choices, if you don't need the additional space, I would go with the M3C.

$112K for an M3 which will depreciate like a rock. Smh

At that price the only car you should be considering is a Porsche.

For $90k and less I would go with M3 but $112k is the price of M5 …

Nah, I was just countering your absurd statement with another one. The M5 is for people who want an M5 and the M3 is for people who want an M3. There is no such thing as an "age appropriate" car. People who think there is are way too invested in what others think and insecure.

The M5 depreciates faster, but I'm not sure how much the ADM and 50 Jahre nonsense will skew it.

I'd probably just get the M5 because I could never deal with paying for one of those cosmetic editions and a markup. Plus I'm not sure about Interlagos. It's not as dynamic as some of the newer blue paints and a little dull in the shade. I parked next to an Interlagos M3 for 4 years. It's nice but not like San Marino or anything.

This a pretty tough decision. 1 the M3 is over priced but aesthetically in that unique color it does look better especially if you change the grille to the CS style. It is a little smaller & lighter with the sportier seats.

Personally if I was in this position I would go with the M5. You get the V8 which will sound better and it's the last M5 that will have the V8 before it goes hybrid. Also in replacing your X5 the M5 will give you some of that practicality especially with the seats, where has the carbon buckets seats are nice but on the practical side not for me. You get a better interior especially if it has the B&W system.

Agreed, Interlagos is pretty boring and just looks like a navy blue.

I second that! Your spec looks great. You'll get exactly what you want, take it to the track on more days, and have the fun of the M3 as your performance daily drive.🚙 Let us know what you decide!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was feeling a bit sheepish being well north of the average 41 years for an M3. As indicated in another thread my wife commandeered my M5C LCI the day I bought it so my "consolation" is an M3C which I am quite excited about - good size, plenty fast enough, well equipped and looks super cool. Will be fun adding a few carbon bits. Plan to track it which I would never do with the M5 - it to me is a luxury super saloon, great drive and menacingly quick but not as manoeuvrable as the M3.
So I recommend go with an M3 of some configuration (or the M5 lol) - nice dilemma to have.

Just get a base 6mt non individual M3 and use the money you saved for track modifications down the road.
