I watched the Harry's Garage review (linked below) of the M5C and the following quote stuck out to me:

Quote:
It just isn't engaging. I find i can see it has everyday practicality around it and it's a really nice cabin to be in but is it 114,000 pounds worth? What I've concluded is I would actually be happier in a just a regular X5 or something and then have a proper sports car in the garage as well. I'm never sure if you can actually combine the two and this M5 has sort of proved that right for me.
As someone who owns an X5 and a proper sports car in the garage, this really resonates, and makes me hesitate on trying to combine them into one car for 89% of the all-in cost of having two separate cars.

Now perhaps back to the original plan of ordering a M3 6MT in Individual San Marino Blue with Silverstone full leather and carbon bucket seats...

So you bought an M3 that is now the size of the M5, but is a more affordable or budget version of it. Makes sense...!

As others have said, if you're planning to track it, the M3 is a no-brainer. (I recently came from one-on-one M school at the Performance Center and had my pick of cars in their entire fleet. Lead instructor said the M3 was his best car for track duty.)

...but I wouldn't pay the special edition surcharge. You could save yourself $15k and have a nearly-identical G80 M3 without the 50 Jahre fluffery, at which point the value proposition against the M5 becomes more compelling.

The M3 50 Jahre isn’t good value. It doesn’t even have the M carbon exterior pack, just a stuck on carbon splitter and although the interior has buckets it’s not a full leather. Colour looks good and wheels aren’t bad either.

Best spec-ing your own and even going individual.

Such an Awesome color - Congrats!!!

Anyone know why Interlagos was unavailable as an individual color on the F8x platform but is now available again on the G?

I can help, I've driven both a lot.

https://machineswithsouls.com/2022/08/22/bmw-m5-review/

Toward the bottom I compare the M5 to my own G80. If it's track time you seek, the 3 might be a bit better but the M5 is an overall better car.

Also, I had IB on my E92 and loved it.

Up your limit $40k and go M5CS all problems solved minus some cash BUT don't let that put you off if you can afford it because resale will be far better than the other two options

I'm biased but since you have the GT350 for your track needs I would go with the M5. I daily drive mine and its the best of both worlds. I don't have the urge to get myself in trouble constantly, but at the same time if I am feeling like a hooligan it gets the job done and in a quite fun fashion imo.

It's only available for the 50 Jahre. It remains blocked for Individual orders.

Between these 2 particular examples, M5.

I wouldn't consider M3 at this price point. 50 anniv. edition isn't a good value since it doesn't give any performance improvements.

I would get rid of the GT350 (and my X5).

I really think the key point surrounds not what you do on those 5-6 track days— that part is probably pretty obvious, and I would agree, on those days the M3 is always a "hero".
The key point, however, is what you are using the X5 for on the other 360 days of the year… Speaking as an X5 owner— I couldn't function without the comfort, luxury and utility of that car… I don't think I could handle not having the 7 passenger version of the X5! We all use our vehicles for different things, but for some of us, our vehicle is a work horse first, then a race horse. If you're selling two cars to buy one, that car has to meet your needs for the 360 days first, and then the 6 days of track….
Oh to be 25 again, wondering why the m3 had those extra seats strapped in it— I only needed one!!
You have to begin a serious conversation with yourself as to whether the M3 will be able to fill the "work horse" role. For me, I rely on my wife's car to "pick up the slack" freeing me a bit to try something smaller. She will take delivery of her Rivian 7 passenger vehicle about the same time as I take delivery of my new i4 m50 …. When I need the size, we'll swap….
Any chance you have a wife that enjoys larger luxury SUVS….?

Oh wow…IB is the best color ever made. The only car I regret getting rid of is an E60 M5 in IB. Currently I have a 2022 M5C in MBB.

In my humble opinion I still see the M5 as an executive performance sedan and the M3 as a performance four door car. It’s a subtle difference but I think if you are first looking for a luxury sedan that is performance oriented then the M5 is your car. If you are looking for a performance car and want four doors but sportiness is more important than the M3 is probably your car. I have owned M5s and M3s but have never owned an M3 when I didn’t also have an M5. I would not drive the M3 to a business meeting but I would always drive the M5.

With that said, both are awesome cars…especially the colors.

We own a Ram 2500 diesel, which I'll drive, and which we'll trade in for a Rivian R1T once they're able to fill our pre-order. The ideal state is to get down to one sporty car and one utility vehicle. My wife is excited for the Rivian, as am I.

We'll, the Rivian is no performance slouch, especially in a straight line… it sounds like if you give up the X5, you'll still be able to get your hands on a pretty good "all arounder"… maybe it makes sense to go for a car that puts fun in the corners ahead of all else??

the CS models do seem to hold up a bit better in the last few years but as they age they fall off quite a bit. New they were 104k now you can get them for 70k or less.

the M4 GTS on the other hand has fared much better considering it retailed for 133k and can only be had for around 90k. But it was a very low volume car
