Took my xDrive M3 to the drags..
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I started out by just launching, however, I was spinning a fair amount so the car would shift into 2nd gear early to prevent wheel spin which killed the momentum. After a pass like that, I put the RWD mode to use and did a burnout, then switched back to AWD in the span of a few seconds, I must say it's a cool feeling haha. Now, with the burnout taken care of, I went into launch control mode, let it rev up to 3000, and released the brake, It took off like a rocket ship. My 60ft was a 1.563 and if you know anything about drag racing that's incredible for street tires, and with that launch, I ran very consistently, 11.181, 11.167, and my best pass 11.146 at 120.79mph Video/slips attached below Last edited by NickPJT; 06-30-2022 at 05:55 PM.. |

I have a question regarding launch control at the drag. Obviously it's just test and tune. If it was an actual race with the car beside you. How would you able to time your launch control with the light?

Yeah, so the first half of the evening is T&T, but it turns to elims after that, so I like to pretend I'm racing elims every pass lol. Anyways, to answer your question, as soon as I see the staging lights are full on both sides I go into launch control mode, typically I prefer to be the last to roll in as it's easier to time. That always has me at the maximum RPM by the time I need to go for a good RT. In the situation where it was dial in's, I would see what the person dialed in next to me, and if it's within a second or so I'll do the same procedure, however, If its like 2-3 seconds I wait for a little before going into launch mode. |

The car is getting the hook, and getting down the line, quickly. Thats why the MPH is a little lower. Almost like a deep stage.

Congrats redfurym3 ! I can't wait to see what you end up doing with this build, knowing that you either go hard or go home
That thing just LEAVES with AWD... |

Great time! What was your DA?
I was wondering where the 1.6x 60' times were for the G80 as that was relatively normal when I was at the drag strip with my modded B8 S4 back in the day. Now a 1.5x 60' was not so common so I can appreciate the time. Back in the day we had an issue with wheel spin which forced a short shift into second. We didn't have the Luxury of switch to rwd so I would bypass the water and straighter her up and floor the gas to get all the gravel and stones off the tires. We'd then stage up and when we launched there was minimal wheel spin/hop and the short shifting into second was gone. The short shifting must be a TCU safety feature to protect the transmission. |

I believe it was around 67-72F with a 500 DA when I ran my best pass, I suppose one nice thing about California is the low da once it gets into the afternoon, though, we have to deal with 91oct. Aha, modern technology is amazing. That's true drag racing right there! Yeah, I'm sure it has to do with the TCU. |

Very nice!!!!
I was honestly expecting a little more on the back end (meaning MPH), but it's rolling.

redfurym3 Those are great time slips for a pretty stock car running on 91. That's all we have here in the bay area too.

What tire pressure are you running? That's moving btw! I went 11.39 in 90 degree heat so i know the car has more potential. Lmk your tire pressure as i will try to head to the track tonight, weather permitting.
thanks, Ken |
