Yup, saw that video.
The 'base' isn't as base as they advertise it to be!

My 2023 M4 has the ID7. They will probably add the ID8 to the 2024 model year.

Any G8x thread which hits homepage is flooded with these grille comments. Can we just move on from that topic and stop derailing every other thread.

These vehicles are selling like hot cakes and people are waiting for several months for a build allocation.

I don't see why it should be glossed over. The majority of people who I know who have M's hate it and will not buy a new one. Instead of not bringing it up all the time let's stop having everyone post their new G80/G82 on the forum and then everyone tells them it's beautiful. It isn't, but I know it's subjective so we'll all agree to disagree. This is a proper point to bring up though in this thread since it directly relates to the front end in most cases with an LCI update.

BMW cannot make enough of these to meet the current market demand. With the aforesaid reason and also the design language used in G70 and G07 LCI, its highly unlikely that BMW is going to mellow down the front end design.

Once next generation is released with a hybrid powertrain, people are going move on to the next reason to complain and look back at this platform.

It is played out. The first pic I'd seen of it, I was thinking, "holy hell, there is no way" but, I never not liked it. Looks amazing. But, what do I know, I love the M Performance exhaust, as well.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see what hybrid options (if any, vs full EV) BMW comes out with over the next several years. California has decreed there will be no more new ICE vehicles sold in the state as of 2035, and depending on which bill you look at they also included none will be allowed to be registered in the state at the same time. That's a significant if subtle change in language and I haven't read the whole thing yet to see which side of the line hybrids fall under, but given the market for California I can imagine a manufacturer taking steps to prepare their lineup for that eventuality. As the saying goes - Where CA goes, the rest of the US tends to follow.

I just really, really, really can't stand the miniature billboard look of the ID8 screen on the dash. My G82 goes into production September 12th (FAR sooner than I'd expected to order it, actually) but it means I'm guaranteed to get the last of the ID7 screens. If they do something to significantly change that look for ID9, maybe I'll swap out for a hybrid M4 w/ ID9, we'll see. I think this will be the last one I buy for a while though.

In the meantime I'll keep parking my G22 M440 in the "hybrid / green / fuel efficient vehicles only" spots .

Not sure how that is derailing. It's directly relevant to what some of us would want them to do as part of the LCI. My opinion is for them to at least make the grill more cohesive looking like the csl hommage.

The people you know who have M's and don't like the G8X line are apart of the small vocal niche online that look big, in reality like the OP said they can't make enough of them.

And most likely the people who won't upgrade in to new M's will get replaced by other customers from other brands like AMG.

That big grill ain't going no where specially with a LCI at most they may change the style of the plastic slats.

A clarifying question; when to expect the LCI of the G80? Somewhere around 2024-2025?

Based on the poll in this thread (LINK), more than 60% of the G8x owners are first time M buyers. BMW might be catering these platforms to a new set of audience.

Also I think C63 potential buyers are flocking to G8x platform as next generation C63 is going to have a 4 cylinder hybrid powertrain.

My G82 xDrive is my 31st car and my first BMW. I've been following the Ms since the first time I'd seen an E30, back in the 1990s. They've just never quite been where I needed them to be.

I was most interested in the E92 and F82s. They're were just considered in the bottom half of their class for speed and performance.

I was all about the F82 when it came out, but the power just wasn't there for me. I ended up in a C7, which was great. I just wasn't in love with that, either.

This is the first M car that I've purchased since my E90 M3. The subsequent models in-between just didn't do it for me. Nothing exciting at all since BMW went with a bloated look and no personality. I decided to go to Porsche with a 911 GTS until I just went back to BMW (my 8th BMW) with the G82.

I'm really excited about this car including the way it looks in real life, and how it performs way beyond what I was hoping for while doing my research and taking an initial test drive.

Yes, because I have been a BMW owner since 1979, I was initially set back by the dramatic front-end styling that I saw in pictures including the grill. But, when I first saw one at the BMW dealer, I instantly decided that I had to have one, and I'm now one very happy owner.
