Long QC times are mainly due to some factory defect that they discover and sometimes needs to dismantle the whole car to fix that defect. They can't feasibly produce a new car because the chassis already has a VIN assigned to it.

Hahhaha facts! I’ve been in QC for 26 days now and feel bad complaining after reading some of the stories on here.

Is this perhaps related to the stop sale thread that got posted a bit ago?

Just called genius to see if that is the case on my m3. He couldn't find any stop sale campaigns associated with my VIN but the notice said they're adding more VINs each day. My prod date was 9/23 so hoping that it's just "normal" QC stuff and not this month+ delay for a software update on the backup camera.

The experience that we had early this year is that the cars do not get held up in QC for stop sale items. If you do have a stop sale, it can be resolved if the car sits long enough in QC, which happened to several earlier this year, but it is not why it is stuck in QC. In my specific case, my stop sales were not resolved during my 96 days in QC (for the CID) and had to be resolved at the VPC in Oxnard. Others had their stop sales resolved, but remained in QC for many days after that.
I doubt CCBs would hold a car in QC because they would never be able to get the car off of the assembly line, it can't roll. Something like CCBs being unavailable would likely cause a push back in the production week. But, that is speculation.

Yup, 96 days. And I wasn't even close to having the longest wait. I seem to recall at least one person was over 120 days. And if I'm not mistaken all for CID.
