Looks like I'll be ordering myself a 2027 G80 6MT (2nd G80.... need to get my 2023 first) as one final hurrah before I'm forced into an EV. Wonder how long I can keep it reliably... I only drive maybe 6-7k miles a year.

I intend to keep mine for a long time. I had my S4 for 8 years, I might keep this longer.

If next generation is going have a hybrid powertrain, MY27s might be hot commodities in the market.

I might be clocking similar miles on mine and planning to keep it for a while. Hope i dont see any major issues in this platform.

I'm thinking my experience with this 23MY will give me a good idea if this platform is reliable enough to keep longer than 4-5 years. Assuming I get this car in Feb/March '23, I'd be looking at roughly 4 years of ownership before I'd need to place an order for a '27 G80 if I want to go that route. The only issue is that accounts for barely 30k miles, which is hard to assess long term reliability on.

My G20 has a little over 20k miles and has been very reliable... but that means nothing of if it's reliable after 50 or 60k miles. I guess we'll see.....

In 4 years you might have 24,000 miles

You're not even 1/2 way through warranty

At 6,000 miles a year you should not see tread wear.

It's gonna take you 10 years to get 60,000 miles

How could you measure reliability with such low mileage?

It's gonna take you a year to get your breakin service

Not to mention the S58 is a modified B58, and so far there have been no known significant issues.

Luckily since I'm planning to do PCD, break-in service should happen within the first 2 months.

But yes, after 4 years I'll probably be looking at 25-30k miles. Which is why I made the comment about not being able to properly assess long term reliability.

In reality I'll probably see where I'm at by year 5 - if it makes sense for me to order another G80 or just keep this one.

Definitely. Truthfully though I'm not so much worried about engine issues, I'm more worried about electronics... Mechanical reliability in this platform has been proven.

Steering rack as well? This is what worries me most about the G8x....

Nice!!!

I hear ya🦅

I think cars are pretty damn reliable at this point.

There is a warning or sensor for everything

My F80 was excellent after 72,000 miles with me behind the wheel 😆

I'm definitely high on maintenance

Anything that would fail would be an anomaly

I'm oem everything and I don't modify cars anymore

I would like to see the base MT get a factory power boost up to 500. I know it’s only 27 horsepower but it’s the principle of it. And if it’s .1 seconds faster in the 1/4 and 0-60, even better.

I am wondering if BMW extended production of G8x platforms by 2 years so that they have extra time to develop hybrid powertrain for next generation vehicles.

This is great news, looks like I'll be ordering one last G8x in 2025/26 ish.

Now, Touring or 6MT?

If it's any consolation, the 6MT is already making north of 500 stock (fast forward to 2:40)
