Not with a manual. I’m at 3,000 rpm at 80-85mph ish. Cruising on the highway it feels like it wants another gear or 6th should be an OD.

I think we discussed this earlier in the thread. It's also addressed in the tech thread.

Long story short, this is an issue with all G82's shipped to the US. My dealer contacted BMW last week. They're supposed to be sending a code to fix it but it was going to take a couple weeks. Hopefully your dealer has it by the time you need your 1200 mile service.

I don't think it's "all", but it definitely is some. Mine has Sirius and I just tested that it works ok (so I guess now I'll get daily letters from them for the next 5 years).

Flipside - mine doesn't come with the smart key/credit card key thing it's supposed to. Dealer said it definitely should, so they're going to try and sort it out at the 1,200 mile service

Definitely hovering at 3k in mine to. Plus side is that cruising at highway speeds you have plenty of torque which is nice.

The ratios in the gears definitely don't feel ideal. First gear is way too sharp, and I'm really struggling to then nail that 1st - 2nd shift, it often feels really jerky. All the ones after that are then pretty tightly packed

Smart Key? An option or was this supposed to be standard?

Based on various comments, it seems like all of us that DO have Sirius have G80's, and everyone that doesn't has an 82...

This is what I expect given my experience with my current 2014 6MT 335i. The auto's got 2 more gears. This is the only thing that I think makes me still at all interested in the auto but not enough to matter since my G80 order is for a 6MT

That's my understanding. Only issue was with M4's.

Does the G82 really have only one 12V power outlet?

G80 6MT No Sirius. Dealer confirmed this is a known issue BMW is working on and said hopefully will have the fix for the 1,200 mile break in. Also confirmed it is not a hardware, just a software issue.

Owners with Competition + CF Interior.

Looking at videos and pictures of the CF shift paddles - seem like cheap plastic paddles with CF stickers on the face. Am I blind?

Correct - The G82 build sheet for cars destined for the US should have autogenerated two build codes for Sirius XM, one for the hardware and one for the installation of software. Unfortunately it only autogenerated the code for the hardware. If you look at other build sheets, they always come as a pair. For whatever reason they didn't on this car.

I'm at the dealership now, seeing if they can fix the issue. I really hope they can.

I picked up my G82 Comp on Tuesday (week 9 build) and it has functioning Sirius XM that was activated by the dealer. And on another topic, there are 2 12 volt sockets. One in the front console between the cup holders, and another in the trunk.

One random question - when you start up, what color is the car in the dash? I have a BGM and the car in the dash is oxide. On the 360 camera etc. it's BGM, but for some reason in the dash it isn't. For some obscure reason it irritates me, even though it shouldn't

It doesn't feel cheap or look that way to me.

I've upgraded the sound in every BMW I've owned. The HK in this is no where near as bad as the fake "HK" sound was in my M2C. And I've heard the base audio in the 2 series and the X1 and it's utterly dreadful. I'm not discounting that our fellow forum member is unhappy with it, but it really is no where near as bad as base X1 sound.

The primary issues with it are the same as earlier HK systems I've heard:

1. the metal HK tweeters are harsh. I've used HK tweets with expert DSP work running through them and they never stop being harsh but aren't physically that awful. It's placement and tuning. The location of the front tweeters essentially demands soft-dome tweeters unless the human listening to them really loves high notes.
2. We're too close to the driver's side speakers. This was REALLY an issue in the smaller 2, but remains an issue in the 3. My SO has a 530e and it's JUST far enough away. Echolocation causes this to always seem off at that point, and the system's use of the evil center channel doesn't help. Fade 1 step back, and two steps right (for left-hand drive) and it reduces the issue considerably in the G80 (and makes it worse for your passenger)
3. The Under-Seat woofers are underpowered in relation to the rest of the drivers. Again, I think it's less of an issue on the G80 system after living with it for a week and a half, but I still have the bass pushed further up in the EQ than I would if the power ratio was spread out better.

Overall, I'm less offended by the HK system in my M3 than I have been with any other HK system I've had. And I'm deeply picky.

One other note:

EVERY comment about audio systems comes down to what you are listening to, what your ears are used to, and what your ears are capable of. You can run spectrum analyzers until the end of time, but most humans are NOT looking for a perfect system. They are looking for a sound system that meets their specific criteria. I don't listen to techno, rap, house, or EDM. Or Country. But I listen to almost everything else. I've heard a system tuned specifically for a guy who loves EDM. He loved it, I hated it. The professional tuner also hated it but it was what they guy wanted.

I think most buyers won't notice where this HK system fails. Time will tell how much it's particular failures annoy me and what that eventually does to my budget. :-)
I found the HK system to be much better once Logic 7 was turned off. The surround sound in any production car is rubbish
