Those are dual voice coil and look to be wired up in parallel. If they are 4 ohm coils then that comes wired as 2ohm but you could rewire to series to get 8ohm and match the stock woofers. I don't think it would be wise to use these at 2ohm load on the stock amp.

Those are 2ohm while stock woofers are 8ohm. I would not recommend driving these with the stock amp. No idea why BMW chose to go with 8ohm drivers which requires more amplifier power for the same output levels.

Yeah they actually state that in the install instructions, if you want 8 ohm wiring you can contact them.

BMW wants to limit the current level draw in their audio systems: all BMW audio systems output the same current level (4.5A) for the woofers at different levels of voltage with different woofer impedances.

Quick question for those that have done the under seat sub replacement - what size Torx driver (I think it's Torx) is required for the seat rail bolts? I don't have a good assortment of larger sizes, so probably need to buy a bit for this, and I'm not seeing it mentioned anywhere or in the R&I instructions that have been posted.

Pretty sure it's a T50 and for the sub attachments and covers you need T20

Following up on my original Bavsound Ghostsub review now that I've gotten through about 12 hours of break in.

They have loosened up considerable and now sound significantly deeper and punchier. Really is dissapointing they don't pre break them in before shipping because it's a fairly big difference.

I've gone back to the stock HK codec as B&W is a bit too much now. When fed a good signal from Tidal, these things really do make a nice difference and I would now recommend them at the $500 price point.

Got to thinking about this today. With B&O coded in, the bass seems pretty good when in concert mode. Hits pretty hard and clean depending on the song. So I wonder if better bass is the issue vs the dull, mono, and un fulfilling sound from the speakers in general. I think that is more of my concern at this point. More bass or cleaner bass is not a bad thing though.

Subbed. Thinking about a more serious replacement of all OEM speakers and a sub in the truck with DSP. I was at Haas entertainment this morning and they said they installed in it in a 22 M4 and the results were incredible.

The results should be incredible if you change all the speakers, amps, processors, and add subs designed to match the new system. Hahaha.

It sounds to me (sorry for the pun) like the factory speakers themselves are not too bad (at least same quality as g20 which I am happy with (not satisfied, but happy). If that's the case, and the amp is the same, I wonder why the g80s sound very different.

I'm holding out hope it will be satisfactory for me.

Indeed. What they suggested is starting with the Amp and Sub first as that would give the most bang for buck. I'll see if I can get the parts list and quote so I can repost here.

In most cars, the speakers are the weakest link, and even using the factory amp with "real" drivers makes a huge difference. Of course, adding an amp helps even more. At least our drivers are decent.

I have a great setup in my house for audio (martin Logan electrostatic), and would love a system from the top bimmers...never understood why they don't at least offer it in M3. Disappointing.

I agree. Always focus on the speakers. It's the old adage: If you're buying a computer, invest in the RAM; sound system? Invest in the speakers

Considering this on factory speakers with a sub in trunk on its line out which can all be managed/tuned to blend.

Same - But went the KEF reference route. Agree it should be better esp given how expensive these cars are
