Can you change the default M Drive settings?

On E9X M models you could have your default settings set so that when you start the car, your power mode is on, suspension is set etc. No need to press the M button.

Is that possible on the G80? Not sure if it was possible on the F gen.

Thanks!

With the electronics on, you can adjust the settings or push a red M button before firing up the engine (e.g if you want a more aggressive start up noise).

As fas as always starting in a certain setting, I haven't had any luck so far. It seems to always use comfort/efficient for everything. I assume it has to do with noise regulation?

If they would allow you to set the default settings you would effectively have 3 different setting options, although realistically 2 is probably plenty for me. 2.5 I guess. I found that in my last car I just drove in whatever the car turned on to 90% of the time.

it would be nice to have your car start in a somewhat sporty mode without wasting a M1/M2 button. maybe it will be codable like with other cars

The F8x wasn't codable for that as far as I could tell.

Maybe just hop on BimmerCode and you can set the car to start however you'd like.

As others have mentioned in adjacent threads, at least the default mode in the G8x (same as the F9x) is somewhat meaningful being efficient/comfort/comfort and not totally wasted for many. It's a mode I'll switch back into when I'm just cruising on the highway or pulling up to my daughter's school, perhaps I'll actually start in it on a cold morning prior to a coffee and the engine warming up.

The whole efficient/sport/sport thing in the F8x was just kind of weird, I didn't really have a use for that combo. Similar to my F80, I still double tap M2 prior to hitting the start button 75+% of the time, though.

So was my F15, but not my F80. The main difference being the simple comfort/sport/eco modes on the non-M cars compared to the more granular settings.

It's an epa thing... any setting that changes engine behavior that can remain at startup cycle needs to be tested for fuel economy. It's the same reason ASS isn't memory defeatable and also why almost no other oem allows the car to remember last setting with regard to sport, sport+. If they did the fuel economy ratings would have to be sport+!

As for coding, ymmv

My X3MC should be nearly same setup as G8x and I find that startup default efficiency modes are fine for just getting going. The throttle response is still pretty good. If I want more sporty I have M1 set to sport/comfort/sport (throttle, suspension, steering) and M2 is hair on fire mode with MDM. I have not found a way to make the default anything different.

ASS=active start/stop? If so, yes, my F80 remembers that I have it off and remains off every time I start the car.

Correct but bmw has been phasing that ability out with the newer generation of cars, they want to claim those epa mpgs for cafe. It's gone from the most (all?) the G series. F3X/8x might have been the last?

Well that sucks. Any G80/82 owner that can confirm/deny this?

Phew! xlover I'm pretty sure the G20 loaner car I recently drove also remembered. I'm not sure where you're getting your info, but it doesn't seem accurate

Active start/stop remains off in M cars. I don't know about non-M cars. So it seems like we're stuck with comfort/efficient everything when you turn the car on.

G80 isn't support on BimmerCode, yet.

https://bimmercode.app/cars/bmw/3-series-m3/

Hopefully soon!

You better keep that quiet before they fix the glitch with the next update.

Your loaner didn't.... but it seems they made an exception for M cars

For example the 48v m340 doesn't even have the ability to turn ass off other than sport mode. It makes sense for series cars to get the mpg benefit to pay for the M cars
