How do you launch this thing?

I can't seem to figure it out. DSC off, transmission in manual mode...Break all the way down and slam the gas...all I get is wheel spin. What am I doing wrong?

DSC on, MDM on, Sport plus settings (unsure of this), clutch in, floor the throttle. Rpm will hold at 3500 by itself and it will tell you when it is ready for you to release clutch.

G80 6MT owner here:

For the 6 speed transmission,
- Sport Plus on all settings (suspension doesn't matter)

- Put car into M Dynamic Mode (MDM). This should be the middle setting between "DSC On" and "DSC Off."

- Clutch in, shift to 1st gear

- Mash the pedal down (do not gradually press the gas; you must press the gas pedal down fast enough to activate the launch control)

- Hold gas down. The instrument panel display will first say "preparing launch control," then will say "launch control active" when boost is built up and ready

-Drop clutch and go!

*************************************
For the 8AT transmission: here's the excerpt from the owner's manual:

Have fun!

So for those that have tried this and said "release" or "drop" the clutch, can you be specific please? Does one literally side step the fully engaged clutch pedal?

For me, I just lifted my foot off the clutch pedal with the launch control active. Didn't need to balance any engagement point whatsoever

Right before I got the M4, I kind-of drag raced a couple of coworkers one morning, one in his S4 and another guy in his WRX STi. I don't think the WRX guy even tried hard, but the S4 dude used launch control, and it was something else sitting next to him, hearing it rev up and launch quite hard.

I appreciate that BMW has prepared the cars for this abuse for us in advance. LOL

I ended up figuring it out

Mdm

S3

smash brakes

Smash gas

I think you have to have a certain mileage on the trans before it'll let you do it

For the comp, Drivetrain in Sport plus, transmission in Manual with fastest shift/ #3 setting, traction off. Then depress the brake pedal and accelerator, speedo will show “preparing launch control.” Once it shows Launch control active, take your foot of the brake pedal and watch it go zoom zoom! I have a video I recorded today but i can’t seem to upload it on Youtube in HD.

finally completed the break in and wanted to try this. Was in MDM and turned off DSC, manual S3 mode. Break + gas to the floor and just wheel spin, scared the SO enough she was adamant i don't try again with her in the car (honestly scared me a bit too as this is my first automatic). looked up the in car manual and it says to put the car into 2nd but this seems to be some conflicting info. I can't imagine that being in MDM would prevent this but maybe?

Launch control is only active in MDM, one press of the traction control button. Hold is off.

Launch control is available from the factory but tech docs say not to do it before 3,100 miles.

Still not clear if car needs to be in MDM or DSC completely off.
Manual says turn off DSC so I would think it means DSC completely off, but some people say MDM
