Do you think anyone would notice if you drove into work in a $90k Civic?

Nope.
Holy crap that’s expensive. That’s the full race car civic right?
Weight reduction and everything?

That’s still nuts.

Looks like it. But put that $90,000 car with an H on it next to a $40,000 car with a Roundel on it and 97% of the people will still think the BMW is more expensive, likely myself included since I wasn't familiar with that Civic.

Ok now I can't tell if you're trolling or if you truly are this clueless...

2021 was the Corolla's lowest sales year in the US in the past 15 years. 2021 was one of BMWs best sales years in history. And yet despite that... if you add up the sales figures of ALL of BMW's sedans and coupes.... add up 2 series, 3 series, 4 series, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series, 8 series, z4 sales for 2021.... the Corolla single handedly outsold them all combined.... by a lot.

2021 sales figures in the US:

Toyota Corolla: 223,215
All of BMW's sedans & coupes combined: 130,536

Who cares, prett obvious no one is out to buy the $22k Corolla if they can help it. Break those stats down and tell me how many of those corollas sold were $22k.

You know what, don’t bother.
You need to chill baby.
You just are so angry
Idgaf how much it sells lol.

Do you start every post with an insult?
That’s so 7th grade. We’re all 8th grade here.

It’s like you’re stalking me just looking for something you can disagree with and statistic me to death. What I said was the $22k model isn’t the one people are buying. You need glasses on top of your Xanax Anger man?

Idgaf boy!
Thought we were having a fun convo but your all hard, rage now.
Piss off.

It does not matter to me.
You will never be rich driving a BMW, sorry.
That seems really important to you.
I’m sorry for you.
I don’t care how much they sell in comparison to BMW lol. It means nada.
For crying out loud BMW partners with… Toyota!

(Does Ferrari?)

And I like Toyota.
I don’t care about the wealth aspect nearly as much as you. I’m just having a fun convo.

Please stop stalking my every word looking for a missing punctuation lol.
Take your anger elsewhere Mr. angry man!

You gotta check that shit bruh. Those covid shots be giving people myocarditis. You know what that is?

You've misunderstood (not surprising). I don't care about this so called "wealth aspect". I'm providing context behind the general public's perception of BMW and why it exists. But I'll stop since you clearly have no interest in facts (hell, you've likened facts to punctuation )

Nope. Still deciding if I should wait until next year (wait lists still long at dealers near me), or just go buy another Macan GTS....

One of the beauties of COVID was being able to keep my ass at home to avoid these convos. Unfortunately they are mandating people return so inevitably this convo will arise. I mitigate by parking way away in the parking deck. This is the reaction I had a long time ago when I purchased a used M3 E36 in my 20's.

I've worked from home for 13+ years but it's relatively new (COVID times) for my wife.

She had to return to the office a couple weeks back and IMMEDIATELY came home to tell me that one of her coworkers has a G80 M3 in my specific color. Wife thought it was cool but it immediately made me consider an IND color modification.

Damn that return to work.

Thankfully I think this era is over for me. Only one of my 12 employees is even in the same timezone as me. So on the rare occasions that I go to the office (as I will be tomorrow and Wednsday), it’s in a rental car. No one will be jealous of my pimp-ass Malibu.

My G80–when it arrives—will be the first vehicle in my lifetime that I will likely never drive to work even once.

Most, if not all, people that I know owned pre-owned cars.

And to add to the eqauation, I believe that the average car loan is now around 6yrs. They offer 7 and 8 too, if I'm not mistaken. So for those folks that would typically be out of range of a car due to monthly payments, now they can get their dream car; and I bet that most of those loans never see final payment. Consumer eats the depreciation, learns a lesson, and goes for the $20K used Hyundai next time.
Thus is my first new BMW and out of all the BMW cars I owned, I could not justify spending 80k on a car until now. The funny thing is the money I spent on these cars used, I could of owned a new one but financially it didn't make sense until now.

While I think its obvious from the average car prices most people aren’t buying cars like the M3. When median household income was $60k well half make less and that means “most” can’t.

That said I think DO444 makes some good points of prices of everything going up. Part of that is because average wages was up 10% last year (likely 6-7% this year) https://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/awidevelop.html. With longer loans, plus higher average loans more people are buying cars in range of the m3. In a few years I think they might regret it also as that average won’t go as far as they think - especially as everything else goes up.

That said DO444 your comment is interesting about it’s snot that much of a stretch over the average $47k new car price to an m3. I agree but you also say a 911 is expensive. A modest m3/m4 can be $87k. It’s not that much of a stretch to a $105k base 911 either….
Facebook forum us now a place to sell your M3. True, some guys are there to turn a profit but a lot are there that bit off more than they can chew. I don't wish bad luck on anyone and hate to see anyone have to sell something they really wanted.

Met some co-workers at a conference and one had just bought a Toyota SUV and could not stop talking about it, the other mentions she has had her car for 20 years. I join in on the conversation about their rides hoping to avoid the "what do you drive" question but inevitably it came up and I say I drive a BMW, the one that has the 20yr old car goes, I sat in a BMW once and the seats were so uncomfortable I could never own a BMW with those uncomfortable seats. I just say mine are pretty comfy and change the subject. Clueless folks are either knocking you for making too much money or they are knocking your brand choice.

That's actually a good representation of how the average person thinks about cars.

My 2011 328 has "Dakota Leather" I have a leather jacket and it is real leather, I have a 20 year old leather couch and it is real leather. I have a BMW and it has something called "Dakota Leather". While it looks and feels like leather, I'm not sure what it is, and I know it won't last half as long as my couch or my jacket.

Merino Leather

Usually in M models and BMW Individual orders. This is genuine fine-grain natural leather, it is dyed with no artificial coating applied.

Nappa Leather

This is an optional upgrade for the higher-level BMW models (such as the 5, 6 and 7-Series, X5 etc). It is a full-grain, un-split semi-aniline leather with a light clear coating on top of the surface for protection. Its grain quality is not as high as the Merino leather, and it is considered to be the 2nd highest quality leather in BMW cars.

Dakota/Nevada Leather

Used on most model’s base trims. This is a lower grade leather, usually corrected-grain or even created from the split, and coated with a synthetic polymer paint. Its surface is embossed with an artificial grain.

SensaTec

Used on some lower-level models’ base trims. Previously known as the “Leatherette”, this is not a real leather material. In fact this is just a vinyl material tries to mimic the look and feel of the leather sheets. This fake leather material does not breath as good as leather, so you will feel hot after sitting on it for an extended time period. However, it wears better than Merino/Nappa leather, easier to clean and maintain, and it is not animal-based.
