FWD platform is the main culprit not AWD.

Combination of both my friend. If the front wheels are also used for traction, they have less available grip to rotate the car, it's physics. More modern AWD systems that can dynamically reduce the front torque split are able to alleviate some of this though; 4-wheel steering is another way of doing it.
