Yeah, there's a MASSIVE 73 lb-ft torque difference between the non-comp and comp model. Dumb.
The base model offers plenty of torque for regular spirited driving. As others have stated, OTHER than the power difference, there is no difference in options you can have from one model to another. Which is actually great news for manual buyers. All to often, the manual options are relegated to the entry model with no ability to spec options from the higher end model.

Ok, I guess the "base" model can't get 19/20 staggered wheel setup...

Again, there are plenty of BMW bashing, but overall, I'm pretty happy with BMW's decision.

19/20 in are optional on the base model, probably in all finishes and definitely the optional version with cup 2s

Oh wow! There you go, this is fantastic news!

Any reservations I had with the manual not having all the features of the comp as been put to rest.

Side profile of the M3 still screams Mustang to me....anyone else?

Also- the lovely carbon fiber F8X strut brace is no more cost cutting move??

-Unlike the previous model, which feels like a younger brother to M5 and M8, the new model looks more like a mighty brother of M5 or M8.
-I like the rear view of the M4 and its coupe silhouette, but the big-grill design looks better on the M3's more defined shoulder lines and more static taillights.
-The plastic frame underneath the body is somehow intruding, but it makes the car looks more performance-oriented.
-The exterior difference between the competition model and base model is less significant
-Both cars are not bad looking in person
Thanks for the pics and details!

What was your sense of how the new M3/4 were received by the crowd?

G80 M3 Competition in Brooklyn Grey Metallic. Are we really hating the look? I think for the G80, it's overall look and stance IS superb!

^Since we finally get to see it in an adult color, I think the G80 looks great from every angle except the face... but again, until I see it in the flesh without a front plate, can't really make a decision.

Don't feel bad from all these people who can't move on from older designs. I agree with you, this angle looks great.

Why is nobody talking about 0-100 km/h time (3.9 sec.)
That is slower than the F82 (4.0 sec)

I was expecting 3.6-3.7 sec. or even less.

I heard mostly positive comments from others. But no one seems to appreciate the look of the new M3, M4 in particular.
Chinese market is BMW's largest single market but not for performance cars. BMW and Porsche ditched all manual models in China many years ago, and I suspect that is due to inadequate demand compare with EU and US market. I am not sure about other Asian markets but in here people pay more attention to 0-60, comfort and lap time instead of sheer driving pleasure.
Overall I think the new generation will at least sell as well as the previous generation, but I am not sure the hard-core manual model will be reintroduced here.

This color would be my favorite! BMW had a similar color for F8x but later canceled it.

The power difference can be eliminated by having a minor engine upgrade, but 480hp is already plenty and fun enough for a manual rear wheel drive car.

Because it is irrelevant in the real world, which is where most owners will be using this car. There are only a fraction of owners that will take it to the track. There are much better options for track cars. Knowing your line and being smooth is more important than a 0.3 sec difference in 0-60.

Anyways, this car is essentially a GT car at this point. And for that, it's amazing

I like the color but -

Yes the pic does look a bit strange.

Front bumper is slightly different color than the hood.

And looks pixelated
