They continue to tease us with Individual Colors in these videos. Laguna Seca looks better than any color offered (to me).

To me, that looks like Long Beach Blue over LSB. LSB isn't metallic like that... either way, it looks pretty nice!

Very cool. Automatic is really a bummer. If they gonna force me to drive auto, I would have liked to be pushed into DCT. Doing my lease end return on my '18 M4 Convert 6-Speed on Thursday.
Just waiting until Fall for them to release the new M4 Convert with manual trans.

I don't think you're getting a G83 in 6MT (@mkoesel would know better).

For the record, they are one of 3 car companies NOT forcing you to drive automatic (Porsche, Cadillac, and BMW).

LBB has more green in it. This looks like LSB to my eyes, but who knows. Agree, it's nice either way!

It's definitely not LBB...that's my least fav blue BMW ever made and I can spot it a mile away on either an X6M or pre LCI M2.

Just a quick google search so do not quote me, but it says the BMW DCT shifts in around 80ms. So according to that information almost half the time as the automatic 8 speed.

Yeah, I found the same. Not sure the source I found is reliable.

Is 80 -> 150 noticeable in real world driving? I can't wait to test drive and see for myself.

It is what happens during those precious milliseconds that matters, not the milliseconds themselves, and that's what truly differentiates the DCT from the 8AT. Since the planetary clutch packs of the 8AT cannot handle and all out power shift, the engine power needs to be momentarily reduced during the shift which cause a brief DECREASE in acceleration during the shift. On a DCT, the main clutch packs are used to launch the car from rest, therefore they can easily handle a WOT powershift and recuperate the inertia of the engine RPM drop to provide a momentary INCREASE in acceleration during the shift. On an upshift with the 8AT your head will bobble forward, with a DCT your head bobbles rearward. This is what people perceive as the "jolt" or "surge" on DCT upshift and is what makes the DCT more engaging to drive and the better performance option.

the overtake functionality sounds cool. But wouldnt that put more strain on the transmission gears skipping few gears down without going through the prior gears?

Honestly most of these videos make me feel like kindergarten..

Strange they need to explain to there target audience how a auto trans works, I want to know what changes they did to make the car better than the last one, not that the auto trans will come back to its normal mode a few seconds after I mash the throttle..

We were spoiled with the F8X Technical Deep Dive and Interviews, actual geeking out. This is pretty lame in comparison. Another indicator as to what the G8X target audience is.

That exist currently on DCT with kickdown while pressing the - paddle, it will put the lowest gear possible. And if it's dry you'll go faster and if it's wet probably not so much XD

I hate the Tip-in D feature of an automatic gearbox.
Once I touch the paddle it should stay in Manual mode

The DCT was so simple and brilliant to use

Cool; now I know how to use every automatic transmission ever built.

These videos are so generic and 90% useless. It would be nice if BMW has someone like Andreas Preuninger at Porsche. His walk through of the new GT models are always informative and entertaining.

Ugh; I know. Now I see why he went to Hyundai. Either stay and watch BMW go down *this* path or go build something new in your own image somewhere else.

Did you learn already something from the previous videos then?

About the engine, I would expect an explanation about a lot of stuff, turbo's, air induction and exhaust evac, cilinder spooling (seen high revving), vanos timing overlap out/in, materials used, how the heat is dissipated, what about the torque abyss before 2600 rpm, why no electric assisted turbo's, etc...? How about the lag versus the F80? Why is the torque 50Nm up. What about the none competition.

Transmission, "optimised" what does that mean? Optimised for Nordschleiffe, what does this mean, ... ??? For the manual, how is the synchromesh prepared to deal with the violence, shotpeened, annealing versus austenite hardened? etc, etc...
