What G8x do you prefer 6MT or Competition?
To add to the poll, which will hold it's value better long term?
I'm new to the M family and when given the decision it was no brainer for me, manual transmission all the way. It's like watching dinosaurs go extinct. Not only are we dealing with advances computers are making with automatic transmissions, but electric/hybrids are chipping away at all the performance cars on the market. Obviously it lacks a bunch of features, but the G8x base model is one of the most high-tech manual transmission cars on the market. Last edited by ty13r; 11-29-2021 at 11:17 PM.. |

I have a manual daily (Mazda 3) that makes a slow car fun. The M3 is not a slow car, thus I don’t feel the need for it to be manual. Besides, it’s inconvenient when you’re the only member of the family who can drive a manual car - wife does not. Not to mention that in Wisconsin a RWD would not make sense if an AWD version exists.
It would be a different story if I was a single guy or if my wife was willing to learn and we lived where it didn’t snow for 4/5 months. |

Wisconsin definitely has the roughest of winters, so I definitely see your point, but snow tires are enough out here, plus the traction control is on point. We have a 4wd jeep when needed and that's my wife's DD. |

if the bmw manual was like a honda / mazda / porsche unit then i'd take the manual. In fact, i think a bmw in manual actually takes away from the driving experience. So rubbery and long and vague...

ty13r: If you scan through a few pages of threads here, you'll see endless discussion about 6MT vs Competition (and RWD vs AWD). Bottom line is that each has their pluses and minuses, and you will be happy with either one. Just choose what's right for you (and don't try to seek consensus on that point).

The new M3 is fugly and the only reason to buy g80 is manual. Otherwise X3M x5m m5 MB Audi are better looking cars and just as fast/faster.
Xdrive M3 makes even less sense when X3M and x5M do everything xdrive M3 does but look 10x better and have more useful utility. |

Its tough to tell long term. Right now all values are over inflated due to supply and demand. I think it comes down more to the spec with the G8x as far as resale value. I think the comp RWD will hold value the worst. If I was going auto why would I not want the AWD. Also to me, it looks like more opted for a manual then on the F8x. Also way more Individual specs then on past F8x. I came from a F80 comp 6 speed to a G80 6 speed. I love the car. Far surpassed all expectations.

OP, the manual will hold it's value better long term, especially if this does turn out to be the last manual M3 released by BMW.
Personally, from someone who lives in an area that gets 90+ inches of snow a year (and was born and raised in Milwaukee), the 'must have AWD in snow' comment is a farce. When it comes down in feet, which it will here, this car, AWD or RWD, won't even get out of most neighborhoods, even with snow tires. You need a truck. For every other snow event, RWD with snow tires is perfectly fine.

I thought I explained in my post that it's the only Manual transmission powerful, v6 import sedan available on the US market

I'm definitely not looking for consensus, just curious how others feel about the topic. This will more than likely be the last MT I purchase in my life, other than maybe a '69 Chevelle.

I voted 6MT although I bought 8AT as it is the only one offered in my country.

LOL, same thing you're driving because there's no other manual sedan like it.
