All older cars are way cooler and get much more attention at any of my local cars events that I attend. The older the better and the youngest people who attend have mostly air-cooled 911's, but all of them drive a mini, golf, civic, ev, etc... during the week. I would not even take a G80 to an event, nobody would care, but that is not the appeal to the car. The appeal to the G80: The last manual transmission in a family hauler (I have 3 kids), the new M5 in my mind, new car warranty, put as many miles on it as possible, daily driver. As a one-car-do-it-all solution, there is nothing else like it for an enthusiast, even with the flaws. The flaws are what make it so appealing, it is big and bloated because of its duality. |

Weight. Defiantly not aesthetics. I don't know who would think it looks better with a fabric roof.

For what it's worth, my dealer told me that the reason why was because a rear-end collision essentially totaled the car because of the hard top and the mechanisms taking up the entire trunk. Not sure if that's true, but that's what I was told.

While I like the appeal of a cab G82 (aka G83), I’m not sure the look appeals to me. It takes all the beautiful lines and turns them into a smooth cloth bit lol
Works on a Miata way more than it does on a long car like the G83. |

Is SOP still scheduled for July? The M xDrive announcement yesterday (July SOP), but still no G83 press release has me nervous.

Looks better with a soft top than a hard top.

Does anyone know whether there's the slightest chance this will be offered with a manual transmission? As in, no one at BMW has completely taken that option off the table yet, correct?

Ha, yes I heard that quote too. But plans change. Seems like with a July SOP, it should have been officially announced already. The xDrive version was.
But, what do I know?
