Status 112 and Individual Options

Hello all.

I was lucky enough to get an allocation earlier this week that was at 112 status. The dealer had already ordered it but was able to change to my spec. Almost. I had wanted the Ivory full interior. I was told it wasn't available. So I switched to Silverstone.

I followed up asking why it wasn't available and was told it was because Ivory Full is an "Individual" option and that since the car was already at status 112 an individual option couldn't be added. Anyone have any experience with this? Is it possible for the regional rep to overrride? Or is it possible for me to request this allocation be pushed back to a status that it could accept the Ivory?

Silverstone is a close second but after seeing the samples again in person I really do prefer the Ivory.

Thanks all.

Something similar happened to me while waiting for my current build. The all-black 826M wheels were no longer an option (for MY23 at one point in time just like the carbon bucket option ATM.)

Long story short, I found it hard to believe when my dealer told me. I called the BMW Geniuses and they said you’re at the mercy of the dealer and they couldn’t intervene.

If I were you, I’d talk to the sales manager about your situation. If they can’t help, then I’d concern weighing your options. It’s a total assumption on my part, but I find it hard to believe that option will be unavailable for long.

The other thing you can do is call another dealer and ask them to build you a M3 with that option and see if they give you the same story. That’s what I did and it turned out they told me the same as my dealer. I ultimately waited for another allocation.

I have asked a dealer once if they could put my allocation on hold, for reasons similar to what you’re asking and I got a really questionable answer that boiled down to me passing on the allocation like I said above.

Individual option has to be approved by the factory so it is possible that once an order was already 112 changes can only be made to standard options.
Sounds like they gave u an allocation that someone backed out of.

No, they had ordered it for stock. It’s a small dealer in South Texas. Probably don’t get many phone calls about M3’s. Was actually ordered as a RWD base, the regional rep had to change it.

Ivory Full Merino doesn't seem to be an individual option as it's available in the online configurator for both the G80 and G82, and is also in the ordering guide (G82 guide pointing it out attached), so you may want to bring that up to the CA. They may just be lazy. AFAIK change to any individual color orders have to go through BMWNA directly and that requires reaching out to them, so it might be laziness.

It's possible that choosing Ivory (or Fjord) would push the production date past the allocation month. For example, this is for August production, but adding Ivory would push it into September and the system won't allow it. They'd have to reach out to their regional person to push the production out to allow for the change.

Last month I put in an order on an existing allocation, so pre-112 and my white interior was blocked. It had nothing to do with the status…white was “blocked” by the factory for some reason (order would not submit). When I said “try Silverstone” right away he said “that went through”.

Interesting, thanks. This is what they originally told me. Then they said it was because of the individual thing.

Well, they sent email to rep so we will get to the bottom of it.

Thanks all

Hmm, you're right. Thanks for pointing this out.

As per my last posts, the car was originally ordered by the dealer as a manual. The rep had to change it to xDrive. When they configured it, my options went through but Ivory was blocked. Silverstone went through ok. I'm wondering if there really IS a production issue with Ivory.

We will see.

If it's blocked, it's probably for a reason, as cal said, could be a production date push, could be supply chain issues, etc.

We heard back from the rep yesterday. It was, indeed, a result of trying to change an allocation that was already at 112 status. They DO consider Ivory an individual option and it has a longer lead time than being at 112 status allows. So that was the reason, not availability or supply chain. Although in this day and age, I certainly could have seen that being the reason!

Are you certain it wasn't already at status 112?

Ivory & Fjord are individual. If you want ivory, they can ask the rep to push the production week to the right to accommodate ivory interior.

Im certain. I have the dealership’s Vehicle Inquiry Report showing “Order Status: 111 Order Accepted at AG” on May 15th.

Yes, that happened this morning. Tracker shows me back at status 111 and the sales rep says I'm now looking at Week 38 instead of 30 originally. Oh well. Small price to pay for getting what I want, I'm just glad I asked for more clarification as to why the order system told them "no" and if there was anything that could be done and what the consequence would be.

Good deal that you were able to change it to exactly what you want! If it were me, as soon as someone said the Individual option would not be possible, I would just say no thanks on that allocation. Take the next one they have.

Re Individual. Someone posted on here that Ivory and Fjord and Fiona (?) were Individual as indicated by matching door card color on the standard (Extended) leather. And on the non-Individual colors, one had to order the optional Full leather to get the color matched door cards.

For me, Ivory and Silverstone were very close 1-2 choices. I wasn't about to lose an allocation over my second interior choice, since I DO really like it. Just like Ivory a little better. So it wasn't a huge deal.

But on going back and looking at the swatches this weekend in person again, I definitely preferred Ivory, and decided to see if it was possible. If it wasn't, I could definitely live with SS.

Fjord, Ivory, Tartufo, Fiona all have the matched door cards for the extended leather.
