Yes. Some dealers get more allocations than others - depends on volume of which type of models they sell.
BMW of Austin receives more M allocations, for example, than BMW of Temple. I'm on the list for an M4 at BMW of Austin - number 4, to be exact. The M3 list is much longer and would've been a year wait. I should have my M4 by December of this year, which was fine and I prefer the coupe style. I check in with my SA every few weeks (just got on the list three weeks ago) and see how it's going. Allocations just came out this past week, for example, but they don't come out for every model on the same day. I could've had a allocation immediately through a broker, but in Maryland. I want to work local. It's an MSRP deal, which is solid these days. So, I'll wait. I'm told based on their allocation record I should see one by when they are announced in September, or before. That'll put me in production in October and here by December. Now, if someone drops off the list, I move up faster. Don't forget, it can take over a month to ship! All-in-all, from list, to allocation to delivery, it'll be 5 to 6 months for me. To give you a comparison, I took an allocation last year for an X7 M60i (23) and it was delivered within a month. I ordered an X5 in early 2021 and it took 4 months. Now, those are both produced in South Carolina, so transit times are pretty quick. So, 5 to 6 months for an M car from Germany is pretty reasonable. It all depends on your dealer and how many they sell. Last edited by ChemLab; 07-02-2023 at 07:50 AM.. |

Another factor is the deposit. Dealers with refundable deposits typically have longer waitlists (I’ve heard up to 20 people waiting for an allocation). I contacted various dealers in my area and ended putting down a 5k nonrefundable deposit with the “”””guarantee””” that I would be first on the MY24 list. Obviously this is a gamble and dealers can do what they want with their list but had my allocation/production number a month later.

Yep. Deposits do keep some folks away. In Texas there is no non-refundable deposit. I don't mind the $1500 I put down to get on the list. The M3 being a sedan has a longer list, to be sure. So, you really have two options, get on the list or scour the US every few days for cars that pop up due to a buyer back-out. What an emotional rollercoaster that would be.
Some of us are fortunate that we live in places with multiple dealers that receive many M allocations. A lot of dealers receive precious few. |

I think I have the record for quickest time from inquiry call to in production status.

Portland BMW!
I called two other local dealers and they quoted 9-12 months for allocation. Third call was the charm!

I’m looking to get an allocation, my local dealer said they can get me one with delivery some time in October. I’m wondering if it make sense to wait for the LCI? I think that’s supposed to happen in March of 2024.

If anyone is in the Southeast looking for a G83, I know BMW of Gwinnett in Atlanta had at least 2-3 in the bank they can convert to orders as of a couple weeks ago.

Ugh I’m wondering if I should just get a MY 2024 or wait for a MY 2025 which may look better and likely pay an increase. |

Yea I agree. I would expect minimal changes with HP bump that won’t make any real difference to real world use. If u want the car I would work on getting one now. There is always something new coming along with new price increase.
