Will under MSRP deals come back?

When will under MSRP deals come back, now that supply seems to be catching up to demand? I remember buying a custom order PCD E90 M3 brand new for invoice and even some additional BMW holiday cash on top, and lots of folks did the same with the F8x. I’m starting to see deals on other previously in demand performance vehicles as well as the regular G2x, and thinking about adding a G82/G83 to the fleet. Any luck yet?

On M cars not likely as the demand is high. Most of the rarer cars in general are all made to order.

The days of having a ton of inventory are over. Charge more per unit with reduced inventory and a meet demand.

For the car market as a whole, under MSRP deals are starting to come back, even with some BMWs, especially the ones that are on their way out or dealer stock that has been sitting.

If we're talking specifically a G80 M3, I think it'll be a while before we start seeing these cars at under MSRP. There are just too many people chasing a limited supply of M3s. I don't think we'll see under MSRP G80 M3s until towards the end of its life cycle in a couple years, bar a severe economic contraction this year or next. And if you're asking about F80/82 level of discounts where people were getting 10% off plus another $3500 in incentives, I highly doubt we'll see that in the life cycle of the current M3. But I also don't have a crystal ball so anything can happen..

Does ordering a 2023 M3 at the end of 2022 and escaping the 2023 price hike count? If so, then yes!

Did M3s really become “made to order”?

Look online and see current non sold inventory. Nationally if stateside there isn't a lot of new M3s sitting on lots absent highly markup ones. The majority of people at least on this forum are ordering with an allocation thus custom to their spec ...made to their order.

No, that 2023 had to have been built before Dec to avoid the 2nd increase

400+ G8x listed as available nationally in the US is not a lot? I guess that’s a little more than 1 per dealer. Back in the E9x/F8x days I remember seeing 5-6 cars in stock at bigger dealers.

Are we sure these are actually for sale? Dealers often list ordered cars in inventory and on their websites even though the car has already been sold prior to its arrival. I'd find it hard to believe there's many g80s especially sitting in inventory at all.

it's anyone's guess, but about half of them look to be photos of actual cars versus stock images and most of the photos are G82/83, which is similar to previous generations' sedan/coupe/vert availability

I think the issue right now is the asking price on used cars isn’t that far off as ordering new. Plus if a dealer is trying to sale a car on the lot at msrp, then most people would just opt to custom order at that point to get exactly what they want.

At the end of the day, these are still mass produced cars and the manufacturers are balancing supply/demand to control prices.

If we (in the USA) enter a recession (which multiple people consider to have a 60% chance of happening) then we could start to see a build in inventory on multiple fronts- including BMWs. It's interesting because we see conflicting data- earnings misses paired with low unemployment. It is noteworthy that low unemployment data has historically preceded economic recession. I'd expect a slow build in inventory and drop in sales prices IF a recession does come to fruition. Anecdotally the Porsche dealership close by still has a massive list for 911s.

I recently purchased a M4CX from the showroom floor and was able to get 4% below MSRP. Based on my recent search G80s are going at MSRP, G82s can be had with a 0-5% discount and on G83s 5-8% is possible. I originally started out searching for a G80, but the BG G82 stole my heart.

Yeah I can believe that... more m4 availability since bmw produces more of them. Actual photos are more telling, but even some those could be cars that have arrived at the dealer and not yet picked up. If you filter for just m3, you get 56 hits and most of those seem to be stock images.

The G8X TECHNICALLY isn't MTO, it's still an inventoried model... just current demand is more or less making it MTO. I'm sure that'll settle down soon enough, but it's anyone's guess as to when.

I don't think the car makers are going to pump out a bunch of cars to have them sit for discounts.

I don’t believe there are any G80s sitting on the lot unless someone pulled out last minute. I have seen a couple G82s at my local dealer.

Welcome to the new normal.

People have been predicting below MSRP deals for a while but MSRP has been increasing constantly. It has increased close to $6k in the last year on G80/82. Last dec, there was a dealer who was offering $8k below MSRP on G83 and few leads with some discounts were posted for G82 as well. G80 has been a hot commodity and below MSRP deals hardly comes up.

If you are flexible on the spec, you would be able to find something in transit and in dealer inventory.

This.

With significant price hikes and zero incentives, unit profit for manufacturers has increased significantly since 2020. So they are not going to flood dealer inventory with performance vehicles, even if we go through a recession. Companies like Ford and Mercedes have already announced that they would highly encourage customers to do custom orders and move towards it in the future.

There is one at my local dealer right now. Sitting for weeks. Has the Carbon Seats which I don’t want. So I ordered to my spec.
