I didn't realize that. Wonder why?

I had full leather in my F-Type R. One of the reasons I sold the car was that the leather on the dash and headliner began to shrink and retract. Very expensive to repair so I ordered an M340i as a placeholder while waiting for the M3 to debut.

My full leather 2015 M4 lives outside and the leather on the dash is perfect. I live in south Florida. I do use a sun shield and my windows are tinted. My new M4 will also be full leather if it ever gets here.

Good refresh on an informative thread. Llarry's photos really sell it for me. I think the best part about it is the unique appearance of the dash if you go full. Also, the door tops and dash over the driver instruments are noticeably nicer.

Didn't have full leather on my F80 M3...and didn't notice...ordered my 911 with full leather and rarely noticed it...these cars are for driving and nice either way. If I ever order either again I'd skip it.

Does anyone know the code for the bottom of the dash in black, or do you think that goes into an "individual" build?
The entire dash and door cards are leather in the "full" option. the bottom of the dash will be black pleather/plastic if you go the extended option. only full leather will offer the bottom half in matching colors to your interior leather choice

Through an impromptu set of circumstances, I was able to sit in a current M4 today that had an extended interior. The dash top, door tops, and lower dash definitely were a material downgrade from the rest of the cabin. I had originally thought avoiding the Full option was an easy $2550 save, but I'm very glad I added it to my build. To spend 90+ and avoid another 2.5, that would have been something I regretted.

BMW offers Individual Manufaktur, which offers additional elements in Merino leather, and allows a choice of dye colors for various elements. So it's possible to specify the lower dashboard in Black. The challenge is finding a dealer who's knowledgeable and persistent enough to compel BMW USA to price and approve what's in the BMW AG catalog.
Has anyone done this?

Option code is 4M5, it's possible that this forum member has done this.

I attempted to add this to my build and was unsuccessful. Not sure if it was CA or BMW, but the feedback was that this wasn't available.

When it comes to interior options, the configurator might not give you all the details you need. It's always best to see things in person. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the "base" dash option, but I can suggest checking out some blogs that offer insights into leather grades and interior materials. I recently came across a great blog that discusses these topics, and you might find it helpful too. Check it out at https://vonbaer.com/blogs/blоg/leather-grades. It's always good to gather more information before making a decision.
