It seems the UK website shows ALL info per VIN, wheras the US site ONLY shows recalls. If you look at the UK site in the debugger, you'll notice that the "recall" option is set to "no" for most of the codes (the stop sale, missing RAM, etc.). Most likely means an official recall hasn't been issued yet, therefore US version wont show anything.
Also, there are many on here who have cars sitting at US ports waiting parts but the US website doesn't show any indication of that, just shows zero recalls. At this point, I think I'd use the UK version for the latest/most accurate info, and not the US version. The US one will show a recall once BMW has confirmed it and sent out mailers/emails/etc. to owners. |

I confirmed with BMW Na and my service department that I have the main bearing recall. BMW NA hopes to have more info by the end of this week or next week. I already told my general sales manager that I didn't pay 100K for a car with 1200 miles to have issues so if it's extensive engine work they should work on ordering me a new car.

Confirmed today at Bob Smith BMW in California and on UK site my car is on the list. Only 608 miles on the clock. Very concerned to say the least. Not worried about BMW making it right...just the thought of a brand new car being worked over with such a major job. It almost certain that it does not come back to me in same condition I left it. Something always gets damaged...dirty...nicked...scratched etc. Advisor states no definitive fix or direction right now from BMW. I'll just patiently wait with the rest of ya'll.

I’ve written a bunch of posts, but then erased them. Sort of therapeutic I suppose. My OCD is kicking in big time and unfortunately this whole thing has given me a buzz kill on a car that I liked/like so much.

Wow. I feel for all of you guys with brand new cars who are in this position. I know to some it can appear overly dramatic, as sure, these cars will still have the remainder of their 4/50 warranty but I also agree in the sentiment of "every surgery leaves a scar" - on a brand new 80-100k car nonetheless.
Good luck guys.. hoping it's not as major as it seems.

Its like buying a new GTR, back in the day, only to find out that the owners manual tells you, if you launch it, you will void the warranty.

I honestly would be more concerned if I had a car that was manufactured a little time before or after the recall window. Everything in manufacturing and quality control (and life really) is on a statistical bell curve and BMW is trying to guess an acceptable P-Value that covers the most likely failures.
Someone mentioned the Audi 2.0T piston ring issue. Audi issued a 2 model year recall/extended warranties/repairs for vehicles from 2009-2011. However, 2012-2015 models still exhibit the same failure at a higher mileage (roughly double) than the recalled cars and Audi won't do a thing about it and claim it could just be normal wear and tear … ask me how I know (also the irony is our Audi has been perfect from a reliability perspective up until the issue appeared at year 6 and 96k miles). |
