New 2022 M3 - So many paint imperfections!

Hey Folks,

Stoked that I got my hands on this 2022 M3 in Individual San Marino Blue Paint!

I didn't order it an order fell through and I had asked a few local dealerships to give me a call if an order on a '22 falls through (I didn't want the touchscreens).

Purchase happened in 2 days about 3 days ago. PPF has been done and yesterday as I was working on the ceramic coat I found so many of these 'dust bits' embedded, sometimes sticking out and other times just a burned in hole in the clear coat.

Attaching a few pics. Is this fairly common or something that might have happen at the dealership level. Car has 50 KM on it (31 miles).

Thanks all, happy to be part of the club either way and this color is so good!

Wondering if the car was delayed at the port and just sat there for months which may have caused this?

I would have pointed it out to the CA and see what they'd be willing to do for you.

None the less congratulations on the new ride!!

Yeah, I have not seen a CF roof that was that bad. Mine is flawless.

Are these anywhere else on the car or just the roof?

I believe the CF parts are pre-finished prior to being installed on the car, so I'm guessing this issue would have been introduced before assembly.

It's in quite a few places on the paint surfaces. I'll ask about the sitting at the port bit.

To be honest it's not visible (one part on passenger door looks rust ready but i sealed it for now)

I only noticed it during prep for ppf and ceramic.

Looks like rail dust. Did you do an iron remover and decontamination during your PPF prep?

Did you ask the dealer to take a look? Who did the PPF, the dealer? Seems more likely the dust bits are between the PPF and the body than embedded in both the paint and carbon fiber.

Looks like contamination between the clear coat and PPF. Whoever did your PPF did a poor job of paint prep and working in a dust-free environment.

I have zero such issues anywhere on the car. I did notice minor clear coat imperfections that looked like poor polishing or wax application by the dealer. But these were all taken care of by the detailer who did the full body PPF.

Your first and usually only opportunity to point out paint imperfections are under the bright lights when you take delivery. After that you’re usually on your own.

If you did not pay attention then, you can only guess when the imperfections were introduced. Given what you’ve shared, it’s 99% poor paint prep by the PPF installer. Given prep is half the job or more, you didn’t get your money’s worth imho.

Also if you got PPF done in a day or two, quality of work seems sus. My detailer took nearly two weeks, including doing the hood twice because they weren’t satisfied with the outcome the first time.

If these dust particles are truly in the clear coat, I bet most CA's would just say "Do you want the car or not?" knowing they have a waiting list of people....

Maybe so, shouldn't be like that though.

As we all are aware, you can spec these cars out to be over 1000k. To think about paying that for a car with defects and the CA/BMW would just blow you off is a hard pill to swallow. Then again... They get away with it at Tesla. Just look at the Tesla Plaids.

Looks like contamination from the pics you provided. I wonder why you are noticing this now after PPF, shouldn't the detail shop notice this before PPF?

Having contamination on new cars is COMPLETELY NORMAL, especially if it sat at a port for months! Seems like more a big fail on your detailer than BMW or the dealer.
