As with most kids who started driving in the 90s, I started off with the Japanese car scene.
2002 Acura RSX-S 6MT 2004 Subaru WRX 5MT 2004 VW R32 6MT 2007 Honda S2000 Then I started going with the most bang for the buck performance 2008 Corvette Z51 6MT 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 V8 (Don't ask ) 2017 Chevy Camaro SS 6MT Finally progressed towards Ms 2020 M2C 6MT 2022 M4 6MT It's been a journey I don't think I can go back to more affordable performance cars though... |

This G80 will be the second turbo car I've owned. Back in 1991 I picked up a new Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. I modified the heck out of that car and it was bulletproof. This was way before anyone even knew about the "fast and the furious" …. I had HKS and Stillen parts all over that vehicle. Launching a manual tranny AWD turbo taught me a lot about "hookup on the boil" ! Really loved that car and added a serious audio system to it. I had to get rid of it in 2005, once I was married, because I was concerned about safety with my new bride. (No airbags etc.) But it was the car I took her in for our first date. (Next dinner out was in my E46) Anyway I look forward to the rush of turbo power again

My past Ms in chronological order:
2002 E39 M5 Imola Red/Caramel (should've never gotten rid of it) 2002 E46 M3 TiAg/Black 6MT 2008 E60 M5 Black Sapphire/Black 2000 E39 M5 Imola Red/Black (still have this baby tucked away) 2014 F13 M6 Black Sapphire/Black 2017 F87 M2 Alpine White/Black 2021 G82 M4 Alpine White/Black (current) All fantastic cars--all great in their own way. My favorite being the first, the E39 Imola/Caramel.. so fantastic that I bought another one. In between all of those I've had a few other sports cars/commuters 1992 Mazda Miata 2000 Mazda Miata 2015 Lexus RC-F 2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 2004 Honda S2000 1992 Toyota MR2 2002 Porsche 911 C2.2 supercharged (still have this one) 1989 Toyota Pickup (still have this one) .. a few SUVs that I won't mention I've driven a lot of cars, but BMW will always be my favorite. Porsches are a close second but with a bit of a learning curve being rear engined. Ever hear of lift-off or snap oversteer? Make sure you do some research before buying a 911 My sweet spot is the 2000-2003s era of BMWs--raw, mechanical, refined, with a special connection to the driver. Anyone else agree? I was teased by BMW's long before I could own one, much less an M.
My mother was unwilling to teach me how to drive after the horror of teaching my brother. She handed me to a well-off friend with lots of patience and he taught me on something that looked like the red E30 below. I got my license in June of 87 and owned an array of junkers leading into finally being able to buy cars that started every day before I ever drove a BMW again. 1973 Chevy Malibu to 1976 Buick Regal to 1975 Olds Cutlass to 1980 Chevy Malibu to 1980 Pontiac Phoenix to 1980 Subaru DL to 1985 Nissan 200SX to 1983 Toyota Celica GT-S to 1994 Honda Civic DX to 1995 Acura Integra GS-R. The GS-R was wonderful. And then my asshat boss let me drive his brand new E39 M5 while disparaging my little Integra. Horrible experience, wonderful car (close in spec to the pic below). Two more Hondas followed. 2002 Acura RSX-S and I had a 7.5 year relationship with my 2006 RSX-S. And then I finally went BMW on a whim on a rainy night. A horror-story used 2010 328ix. 7 months later I got it out of my life and leased a new 2013 328ix...it was better but not good enough. So, 2016 340ix. Better again, but still soft and a bit boring. At last, in 2018, I went to M with my M2C DCT. Loved it and didn't love it, but I was clear that I couldn't go back. Random chance got me into my 2021 M3 6MT immediately when the embargo was lifted and I finally feel like I have the car that satisfies what I felt learning on that E30 and driving that M5. IOMG certainly drew me in wehn I first saw my M3, and I was driven specifically to get back to a manual after 8 years trying to live with automatics. |

All manuals. Without a doubt, the e36 was my favorite, followed by e46, and f87. I gave up on chasing engaging BMW's. Now I just want a G80 M3 as a luxury cruiser. I'll pair it with a used S2000 or the new Civic Type R for the fun factor.

To me, the 2000-2003 era was the peak of BMW ///M. Two of the best looking, timeless designs with best all-around performance: e39 M5 and e46 M3.

Well since two keepers reside within that year range I'd have to agree

Previous to BMWs, I owned Japanese cars, most interestingly 1st and 2nd generation MR2s, second one a '93 turbo.
I have loved my BMWs and have driven them quite a bit: 1999 328is, bought in 2001 - first BMW, first German car, LOVED the engineering, design & feeling driving it, sold it at around 200000 miles 2004 M3, bought in 2008 - awesome car, peak BMW. Still have it, still amazing to drive at almost 325000 miles, couldn't bear to get rid of it 2018 M2 - will sell/trade when my G80 comes. Fantastic car, but can't justify 3 cars at once. Moved since buying it, shortened my commute to 8 miles instead of 40, so it only has 58000 miles... 2023 M3 STILL waiting for an allocation since January, but #1 on the list... Hopefully September allocation! |

I still own the E46 and the G80. E90 was my first M, and I owned it for 7 years.
