I use adaptive cruise control on the X7 all the time.
I will never use cruise control (adaptive or regular) on the M3. |

I'm in the camp that believes it is a must have option. I have it on my current vehicle (Mercedes CLS450) and it is extremely useful on the daily commute and on long road trips where gridlocked traffic is a common occurrence. Personally, it is hard to go back to any type of vehicle without some form of adaptive cruise control, at least for daily driver duties. My G80 will be replacing my current vehicle as DD, so I have specced DAP.
If you'll be using your car as more of a weekend/pleasure vehicle, then it's probably something you can skip. It ultimately depends on how you'll be using your car. |

I have it on my g80 and use it a lot - works great! That being said, really wish bmw had found a better way to integrate the sensor

Ultimately you need to judge for yourself how often you envision using the system. I got it optioned, I use it... if I could re-do it.. I may not option it. But its HIGHLY convenient in traffic.. I just don't daily the car as I was originally expecting as it's become a 2nd "for fun" car..

Main reason i'm getting the xdrive is because of this, no way i'm paying 100k for a car that can't do some kind of self driving.

I highly recommend it. I have in on my 22 M3C, but it's my daily driver into the city. So I sit in bumper to bumper traffic (60-80 minutes to go 10 miles) so DAPP does all the work for me.

In bumper to bumper traffic it's really useful. I have it in our X5 and had to have it in my G80

It's an M, so I want to drive the car how I feel all the time, not being driven by it But everyone has their preferences. If you need the features, then go for it. |

It makes driving in traffic a lot less stressful. I use it for long drives for periods of time when I'm just over driving. Also it's nice to have when it's late and your not at your sharpest, adds an extra level of safety. I am really happy I spec it on mine

I don't agree with people saying it's ugly. Is it better without? Sure.. but it isn't bad… especially with an upgraded carbon fiber grill…

Drove many miles in my last two F80’s and never used CC once.
Ticked nearly all the boxes on my G80 but didn’t try DAPP for a while, but once I did I was hooked. Only use it in congested driving conditions, but for those stop-go freeway situations it is invaluable. Won’t order another car without it.

Not much BMW could do with the sensor when you have a split grill aside from making the sensor smaller or have two instead of one like the Panamera.

I leaned towards it in a previous post here. After 1100 miles I am not so sure. I am finding that I am turning off a lot of features that I find annoying in this car. I wanted an ultimate driving machine, not an ultimate nanny.
As can be seen in the variety of comments, people are all over the place on this option depending on their personal needs from a car. My advice is to have a BMW salesperson "sell" you on this option with a detailed test drive of a car (any model) that has it. Have then let you drive it in both modes AND with all active driving assistance turned off. Regarding the latter, the lane departure control is more than just a warning, it is a _control_ and you can find yourself fighting the car over that. The car wants to steer to keep you in a lane, unless you have turned on the turn signal. I think this can be turned off, so it is just a warning but I have yet to get around to doing that.

Impact on looks
I worried about the impact on appearance but after you have it in person you don't notice it. I use it often and it works fairly well.

I recommend it for active safety steering if nothing else
it saved me from a collision last week, a car was merging in parallel as I was merging into the same lane, my car instantly steered out of the lane and saved the day. It readily paid for itself a few times over...2-3K option on a 90K car, no brainer if you ask me.

I've had the option on loaners and didn't care for it. I don't like to fight the car when it wants to change lanes to avoid a perceived risk that isn't really there. And I found the lane keeping to be poor. And the self-driving stresses me out more than traffic, because it reacts late instead of looking ahead like I do.
Other than that, it's great. LOL |
