Thoughts on the Driving Assistance Professional Package - pass or must have?
I've ordered my 2023 M3C and waiting for an allocation. It's fully loaded, BMW individual with most of the popular options (executive pkg, laser lights, full leather, carbon buckets, etc). I wanted to get thoughts on the Driving Assistance Professional Package. Is this something that actually provides value and something recommended? I was looking at an opportunity to possibly save some money on the build and didn't include this but may change my choice based on the input from owners.
Thanks! |

Depends on how/when you use it. Had it on my M440 and used it on the highway while eating my breakfast, worked well. I have it on my G83 and haven’t used it yet, although I’ve only had the car a few weeks. Personally I’d get it if I were you, I like having the latest tech.

With individual paints the system is neutered a little with lane change assist.
https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1825651 Personally I spec’d it my G83 and have no regrets; it works well. I have no experience with Tesla’s but other members have commented that it is comparable. |

If you never had it, you will not miss it. If you do a lot of road trips or highway driving daily it seems to be money well spent. If you do not order it, you will not have the big opening in the grill at the bottom. If you think you will regret not getting it, just add it to the build. The parking package on the other hand is a must for all the cameras alone…..

My wife has a Tesla Model Y so I'm familiar with auto-steer.
I had it on my F90 - it's definitely better than Tesla in terms of lane centering, lane change and overall smoothness. In FL - for whatever reason it struggles finding the lines on when crossing bridges in the rain. I do not have it on my F97 (purchased off the lot). Definitely miss it. I had planned to order a G80 and this was a must have option for me. However. The off center sensor for the adaptive cruise would have pegged my OCD. So I'm ordering another F90. Bonus for DAP - when you get into stop and go, the system actually allows you to go completely hands free up to 40MPH. Obviously do so at your own risk, buyer beware, you're in control of your own vehicle and so forth - but really well done BMW (especially for 1700 bucks).

I hardly ever use the regular basic cruise control in a car, so I passed. I'm also not a fan of the big off center sensor in the grill. It's only Level 2 autonomy, meh....
I bought this car for me to drive.

I passed -- I'm kind of an old-school purist. Give me a steering wheel, accelerator and brake pedal. OK, fine -- I'll take a cruise control.
I suspect I am in the minority.

It just depends. If you're wondering on the effectiveness of the system, I think it's excellent. So I optioned it on my X5 and now have it optioned on my X7 inbound. I also optioned it on my g20 but I don't use it nearly as much on that since I rarely take it on long trips. But in terms of usability, it does what it advertises really well and really takes a lot of the stress out of driving on the highway for long distances or if you're stuck in traffic.
So that's where your personal use case comes into play. If you have a daily commute where you sit in traffic, or is a long highway commute, or you plan to take your car on long trips, I would say it's definitely worth it. But if you don't do any of that, I'd argue it's probably not worth it.

Depends on how you are planning to use your car. Daily driver in a populated metro with congested highways or long drives to work vs hobbyist that takes the car out on weekends and takes it for the occasional spin. Most of us will fall in the later category. I passed on the DAPP as my M3C thats on order wont be a daily driver and I want to drive the car and enjoy it as much as I can rather than the computer drive it for me. So its all about what you want to do with the car.

I did not spec it. That and CCB's are the only two options I didn't get on my '22 M3Cx.
I don't like the asymmetry it gives the front end. Looks awful, in my opinion. Not to mention, I don't commute in mine so I have no use for radar cruise or steering assist. When I drive mine, I drive it. We do have it on our F97 (X3M comp) and it does work well. The radar module is centered on the X3M though -which I don't mind. We also do take it on longer journeys so the tech is nice to have. If you plan to drive a lot of highway (and in traffic), maybe consider it. If the look of it doesn't bother you that is… |

pass for me, i never end up using those features outside of the initial novelty, and in this case the radar placement really degrades the look of the front of the car.

Got this (and all the 'packages' except M Driver's). Many YouTube videos later, I kinda know how to use it and it looks like I will use it a lot for where I do much of my driving (SoCal expressways; doing 85 mph one minute and 5 mph the next).
That said, I tend to avoid appearance and comfort options and this in my mind is a comfort option. If cost is an issue or if you find a dealer's lot car without it remember that (most of us) do not buy M cars for comfort.

Must have. Especially if you drive long distance. It adapts to road curvature, has hands free driving under 45mph, and and has 2 tolerance settings (below 40mph and above 40 mph) I loved it on the drive back from PCD. The change in the grill is a little annoying though.

I opted not to get it. I despise these features in cars I've driven, and find they're more of an annoyance than helpful.
For me this is a car for driving, not being driven in. |

I have it on my current M550i - haven't used it once in over 1.5 years now - I passed on it for my G82 order

I have a 2021 M4, with 30,000 miles. So obviously I have taken several long trips, and I have zero regrets about not getting the DAPP option.
But having said that, I haven't driven much in extended traffic jams. If I drove a lot in traffic, I could see how this option could be a real benefit. Luckily, I don't. |

Have it, use it often, would recommend it (depending on your personal use case) simply for adaptive cruise control.
ACC reduces driving effort and fatigue significantly on long motorway drives, which I do only occasionally (we live 40 miles from nearest limited-access highway). More useful to me is activating assisted driving on my way home on summer afternoons or weekends, when the 2-lane road is clogged with tourists. There's no getting around the fudgie going 37 mph in a 55-mph zone, so I just let the car ebb and flow for itself while I enjoy the scenery and my music.
