Turn on "M Mode" with M1 button?

I was fiddling with my car last night (gawd, I love this thing) and set up my M1 and M2 buttons, but I can't seem to get the car into sport "M Mode" with just one press of the M1 button.

I have to touch the M1 button AND the "M Mode" button on the center console.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

And WOW the car transforms when put into all the kick arse modes!

Not possible. Big miss by BMW. Lots of people on this forum complaining about it. Hopefully they fix this on a future software release

Agreed. Slightly annoying. Thankfully, the “M Mode” display isn’t all that special.

Would be nice if there was another mode which would display traditional looking gauges like in the F80/F82.

I find sport m mode very useful. It's the only way to display the tach in the HUD.

Yes, we need a coding solution for this.

Is that something BMW could make possible via a software upgrade?

Interesting. Wouldn't know, as I've left HUD off since day 1.

Could they? Absolutely.

Will they? No.

I forget if I have this on my x3mc. What does the m mode do? I just used to push m1 twice and it was insane.

I believe they already updated the options allowed to set with the M1/2 buttons. I don't think noise control was an option in the M1/2 presets originally, but now is. My car shipped with noise control as an M1/2 button preset, so not sure.

I wish TRACK MODE was more simple as well. Holding down the button is a small inconvenience, but my routine for track days has enough steps already:

M2, lower windows, power up the gopro, turn on lap timer, hold down the M mode button for track mode, turn iDrive screen back on, scroll to tire pressure page, put on helmet, put on gloves.... anything to reduce that helps when you're trying to grid.

The noise control has been there in the M1/M2 configuration since launch

it's not going to save you any time, but you can turn off all the intelligent safety features by pressing and holding the button with the shield around the vehicle for 10 seconds. This does the same thing as track mode, but leaves the iDrive screen on--so saves you a press of the volume button

and you can also set a hotkey for the tire pressure monitor system, which is what I have set up in my F80

I turn it on every time I drive because it's a lot easier to see the RPMs and I tend to use my paddles a lot.

Picked up my latest BMW since a '72 2002 Tii on Saturday and the M-controls not working with the M-mode is the most frustrating thing so far.

Programming M1 and M2 is also frustrating because you think you have made a change and some things just do not work. iDrive should provide feedback when you are trying to enter conflicting choices. As an ex software engineer, I embrace the philosophy that user friendly programming is competent programming.

Took me a bit of time to understand that the m-mode button controls level of driver assist plus some display tweaks with m1/2 being orthogonal to this.

I'd prefer more configurability of the displays across the modes.

Personally I find that the standard mode rpm is more accurate because the line is longer. It's easier to shift gears just at the right time. The presentation of the sport mode is more good looking but the vertical lines are short.

I haven't really tried using them as all our cars have a HUD (even little old Mazda has the little flip up plastic) and if I look down it feels like I am not looking at the road. Will try it though.

I started a thread around getting the Sport HUD to be programmable by the M1 and M2 buttons. In my F82 I was able to configure the preferred HUD directly into the buttons, but for whatever reason BMW changed that and only allows the Sport HUD if you press the damn M mode button.

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1856760

It's not difficult to hit M1 and then hit the M Mode button, but doing so means you lose the Road instrument cluster to enable the better HUD. Annoying.

Not being able to program the M-Mode into the HUD using the M1/M2 button is a step backwards from the F80 - it was so convenient. Maybe a software update will fix this deficiency
