For comparisons sake, the base F82 did a 7:52, the G82 comp (RWD) did a 7:30, and this did a 7:20.

This to me seems more like a collectors car than a track toy. Of course there will be those with crazy budgets that will track this car or drive it occasionally, but if I had it, I'd PPF the entire car and store it for 5-10 years. It's that unique!

It is.

There is more than one great car
Oh it definitely is, but I didn't expect the M4 CSL to be 9-14 seconds faster. That's insane!!!
Tires are half the gain over a regular M4 comps time, so there's 5 seconds in it over 7+ minutes. Not slow in isolation, but it's not an impressive gain really. Cool car but from a performance standpoint it's a bit disappointing IMO. It actually looks good though, first time I could say that about the new M4.
Do you parse performance gains with every other manufacturer too? After all, the highest performing cars from every brand has better tires.
If they are crowing about their lap time - yes. A good comparative benchmark for reference, the 991.1 GT3 did 7:25 on N0 spec Cup2's in 2014. It's a fast car, but comparatively given it's the best BMW can do it's not very impressive. Nice bit of kit though.

So many haters in here rationalizing why they won't be able to get one, lol. I think it's great, and a fitting modern version of the E46 M3 CSL. I definitely want one and will try to get one.

Exactly. Very disappointing 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds. Only slightly faster than my DCT M2 CS.

I can't wait to see the trap speed on this thing. I know it's a "track" car. But if we're getting 122-123 in the qtr, this thing with 40 more hp and transmission and suspension tuning, and 300 pounds lighter, I'm thinking 127-128 at least. And the Cup2Rs may make this a 10sec qtr, car, stock.

That F8X time was on very different tires on a pre-repaved ‘ring, hard to compare. The best comparison would be the M4CS @ 7:38 but that was also pre-repave and on older gen Cup 2s. No doubt tho G8X is faster, and 7:20 is very fast.

Counter point — This is still faster than a GTS and you don’t have to fill it with piss

Counter counter point, oh you don't have to fill it with literally one of the most abundant fluids? Aka water? You make it seem like it's some massive inconvenience to find such a fluid when it's not. The m4 gts is more of a csl than this thing. Bmw is just milking their successful history at this point. Not even worth defending them. They really didn't sink much engineering into this one. Slap a tune on, some stiffer mounts and cf and call it a day. On top of that a 9 year old gtr with more weight and comparable power beats it. This is nothing to be proud of.

The E46 CSL was a price and performance champ vs the 996 GT3, nearly 6 seconds quicker. It's a legendary car for the time (still is) and they really took the fight to Porsche. Andreas Preunginer talked about the CSL being impressive and a worthy competitor. This is 20 seconds slower than it's contemporary, the 992 GT3. Still a bit cheaper, but considerably slower. It's not really challenging at all which is a bit disappointing IMO. Still very fast though in isolation.

Yeah - no disagreement from me, I’m just appreciating it for what it is. I thought it was going to be a GTS type but it’s more like a CS+. Would be cool to see a full on GTS variant - aero, maybe a slight power bump, race dampers, & kinematics. The only thing that I don’t understand is the CCBs. Though I assume anyone who is going to actually use this as intended will consider them instant take-offs.

BMW has 2 straight EVO CoTYs, and the M5 CS dog walked the 992 GT3 touring in 2021. If the M4 CSL beats the GT4 RS, it's game over for Porsche.

I was having a similar discussion with my colleagues, we are all let down with this new "CSL" especially the price point.
Could of done more, quicker…we were anticipating around a 7:14 time.
I mean where are the carbon door cards to pay homage to the last CSL? I'm being picky yes..I realize that.
So all said and done..this car will be around $200k out the door with taxes, fee's and let's not forget that healthy markup.
I'd opt for a used high mileage 991 or .2 GT3 over this whale.

Except it didn't the gt4 rs is an animal on the track and spanked the g82 m4 csl by a whopping 10-15 seconds. Not even in the same league as Porsche

Pretty quick. Its Ring time is almost identical to the Camaro ZL1 1LE.

What's crazy is that it hit 300kph/186mph on the main straight. The Camaro maxed at around 173mph. Clearly two ways to go about the same time.

If I was a huge G82 fan, I'd definitely be interested.
