Tires are half the gain over a regular M4 comps time, so there's 5 seconds in it over 7+ minutes. Not slow in isolation, but it's not an impressive gain really. Cool car but from a performance standpoint it's a bit disappointing IMO. It actually looks good though, first time I could say that about the new M4.

So this is the BMW M GmbH special 50th birthday gift to 1,000 lucky customers? It almost feels underwhelming to say the least on the surface.

But then as you get into the details it does get better and that ducktail is straight dope and those taillights are friggin spectacular.

It seems some wanted this and others wanted something hardcore that would have even a more narrow on-road scope. Where's the lunacy?

With that said I would guess this isn't a future collectible at all, this thing is collectible right
now. Expensive BMW's typically don't do well and usually takes some time to climb in the secondary market. BMW M GmbH is only going to have one 50th birthday and if this is the second of three gifts it's not bad at all.

But who else feels there's something missing that is absolutely bonkers crazy from BMW M to celebrate its 50th anniversary?

It won't seem right if the production-ready 3.0CSL is shown at Villa d'Este at Lake Como this weekend to overshadow this car as that wouldn't make sense from a marketing standpoint. But it would make sense to unveil it at the Quail or Legends of the Autobahn though. It's clear I am rambling here.

Do you parse performance gains with every other manufacturer too? After all, the highest performing cars from every brand has better tires.

I'm surprised that a track focused car doesn't have a wing, like an ACR, Z06/07, GT3/4, any LT McLaren, any AMG Black Series outside the SLK, a GT350R, Lotus, etc.
I do like the look of a duck bill but wonder if BMW is thinking that the customers who actually will track this car will add an aftermarket one? Same thing for the brakes obviously, single piston floating caliper, yikes. Talk about consumables at the track. It does look like there's plenty of spots for a cage though.
Who knows, this may be a thing out of the Mercedes-AMG notebook, where they just released a more track focused version of the track focused car. See AMG GT, AMG GT-S, AMG GTR, AMG GTR Pro, AMG GTR Black Series, AMG GTR Track Series.

What a colossal failure. How is this tank still 3600+lbs when the m4 gts with a roll cage was lighter and didn't have "lightweight" designation. That 8 speed is just dead weight compared to the dct among other things. I was so excited for this thing what a disappointment.
