Mexico, Santorini, Misano - all pretty similar rich medium blue colors that pop out of the screen. Edit:we could add snareman’s Enzian too.

It’s strange that BMW is now promoting Individual colors in press releases for new vehicles. A step too far? I mean, nothing wrong with promoting Individual, but it’s confusing in this context, especially since they don’t ever mention the name of the color, nor the Individual program. And then there’s the list of standard available colors, all of which this car isn’t.

Can I ask a question, and I'm being genuine here.

On the E92, there was one engine power rating and just real wheel drive. Simple. Like every M3 before.

Now we're here. 2 power options, 2 transmissions, 2 drivetrain options. Doesn't it cost more to develop a platform that can handle all these options? Yes it does I know, but isn't there some weight penalty for engineering everything together?

Even on a stick car with RWD, aren't there some components that have to be shared, and thus over engineered for that base car?

What color option is shown on M3 Competition xDrive? It that one of the frozen metallic options?

G22 4 series does not look any good but this M4 is the best looking car in the world IMO. Has better nose than Bugatti Chiron

I'd presume the over engineering would remain very limited. On the MT, you'll probably share drive shafts/(lsd) diff of the AT that is capable to handle 650Nm but you'll want this over dimensioning for the MT torque peaks. For the AWD, there is no more strain to the rear, but seen it can put 100% of the torque on the rear, there is no over engineering here either.

I personally think it's great. Previously, we found out about the colors only from forum members. Considering most people aren't on forums, the program didn't touch as many people as it could have previously. Now with BMW heavily marketing the program in accessible literature, more people will be introduced to it.

Much of this was developed from the F8X, X3M and the prior/current M5. The hard work was largely done already.

Power levels are purely tuning and nothing else. Auto vs manual Is not new. RWD vs AWD certainly is new but the market for that at 500 HP is massive. They will sell mountains of these xDrive cars.

Would have been interesting to include an (obviously blacked out) xDrive badge on the left-hand side of the trunklid similar to the M Performance models:

Not that there is necessarily anything to brag about, but there isn't anything to be ashamed of either, quite the opposite, seeing the praise M xDrive has been getting on the other models. Yes, 2WD/4WD selectable M xDrive differs technically from classic xDrive... but it's the 4WD part that matters most, and then BMW itself doesn't shy away from using the xDrive denomination for technically diverse solutions (e.g. current M135i xDrive vs former M140i xDrive).

A missed opportunity of showcasing BMW's 4WD system name on a top-of-the-line model, in light of strong competition from Audi's Quattro on the road and especially in the average buyer's subconscious, which will spontaneously and consistently name the latter as the absolute benchmark.

Maybe there will be an xDrive badge with a free delete option. Or maybe BMW thinks these buyers will typically prefer flying under the radar and only showing their guns indirectly at a green traffic light or on a grimy winding road. Then again Audi's RS models don't wear a Quattro badge on the trunk (but will wear it elsewhere, e.g. in the lower grille), and the latest M5 didn't get it either. Or perhaps BMW believes these cars being seen drifting and doing donuts in 2WD mode (< 1% of the time) would do a disservice to the xDrive brand image...

The most plausible reason is BMW simply wants to set its unique M xDrive system apart from its more pedestrian xDrive versions but doesn't want to create a specific M xDrive brand and badge (unlike Merc's 4Matic+ vs regular 4Matic), therefore intentionally excludes xDrive badging from its hardcore M models; the customer base will know it's available anyway. Even though the trade-off is a missed opportunity of high-end publicity to the average Joes that will be gazing at the vehicles in the street.

So they said "market launch" is in August. Is that BMW lingo for first deliveries will occur in August?

The wait for the G83 has felt like an entirety, only a mater of time.

Should be interesting if the G83 has a faster 0-60 time that the RWD comp, as traditionally the M4 convertible has been 0.1 sec slower than the M3/M4.

$4k seems high compared to other models and adding x-drive.

Surely they won't continue making both RWD and AWD when the AWD can be put into 2WD. Maybe the beginning of the end for the 6MT as well.

And where is a cloth interior option? Would love the m cloth from the e46 days. Guess the new G80s are to upriver for that.

Yes, and frustrating. They announced M xDrive at the same time, but still mum on the convertible?
