Thanks gents, first world problems as they say. Just a bummer I’ll miss most if not all of the sumner w my new car. Didn’t mean to jack the thread op, just thought I’d mention so you order any needed parts asap. Most likely other parts won’t be as difficult to find as a steering rack.

OP - consider filing a insurance claim or pay out of pocket. If insurance, depending on your deductible, see if your company will count or as comprehensive or collision. If the latter, it could impact your rates and potentially not be worth it.

Either way, this sucks. Sorry to hear.

This will be covered under comprehensive coverage. It sucks, such a big issue that BMW hasn't solved for years. Happened by my 2016 X5, they ended up totaling the engine. I highly recommend going through insurance, I'll be surprised if the repair costs stop at $2800

Man I can't believe that! Luckily they were able to get the part!

I work in insurance, fortunately this would be a comprehensive claim! Also fortunately, going through insurance shouldn't make the process any longer depending on the company. It's very much dependent on when the part can come. Like most said, repair from a radiator shop shouldn't be too bad. However, a replacement will always be more so a comp claim may be in order. Just remember that the rock was unavoidable if they happen to ask, OP. Also, only answer questions as they come, don't give up information! The claims department job is to minimize the cost of paying a claim, so they'll do just that if you start answering questions they haven't asked.

I wish I had your insurance when I ran into road debris on my CBR1000 that State Farm classified as "collision" and proceeded to ding my rates for the next 3 years.

Well I haven’t gotten it yet and have no idea when I will. There are 39 of them on back order from what I’ve heard and only two have been produced in the past few months (Other than what is made available to new production vehicles of course). And even the two that are supposedly ready to become available won’t be available until 8/17 and this is up in the air because they have repeatedly missed production date estimates.

I know this is a whole can of worms, but as you probably also think... that should definitely not be considered collision. But they could've twisted the wording to suggest you were at fault for "colliding" with the debris rather than the debris being an unavoidable event. That's something that calling your agent (if they are experienced in talking to claims people) should've helped with.

Paint with 2 rattle cans of outdoor grill paint

Trim to size

Great idea! Might have the shop retrofit. Reduction in CFM should be minimal.

One more disclaimer - OP, in regards to a comprehensive claim. Check with your insurance company to see if they have a payout limit for comprehensive. Some insurers have a limit of paying out for a comp claim before it starts affecting your rate. It won't affect it as much as collision, but it may still increase your premium. (This is true in most states, every state has different insurance laws)

You have the protection plastic grids and still it hit it hard enough to damage the aux radiator. That's just unfortunate.

I thought the aux coolers were there to cool the fluid in the water to air charge cooler. Is that not the case?

But i do agree going to a radiator shop is a good idea.

Suggest consider replacing with Mishimoto radiators....
MMRAD-G80-21A

They are better and have REAL rock guards available (guards do not fit factory radiators). Cheaper, better, safer. IMO
