So I'm starting to get a "little" more comfortable in pushing the car a little. There are a few corners I know very well that have plenty of run off with no agricultural experience to be had. 🥸

That said…

So I pushed it around my favorite corner. HOLY smack!!! Mechanical grip and tire grip is insane.

I actually pushed hard enough the rear end should of come around; nope! Slight intervention from traction control and the car just pulled through.

Now even though the car felt like there was way more grip to be had that's as hard as I plan to push it.

Super impressed with the poise, grip and confidence this car instills. 2022 G80 6MT (photo compliments of my cousin I was visiting in New Jersey yesterday)

Try going to some autocross events to get more familiar with the cars abilities.

I'm definitely going to do a track day. I've been on a track with my past 2011 ZX10R.

Yeah, so im a ways off from taking traction control off and all though I have some B roads I frequent, I'm sure I'm no where close to the cars limit. A little more time though...

Never turn the traction control off.

Especially if you want to push it on the street.

Maybe on a big empty parking lot, but never on the street and questionable on the track.

All the F1 cars have crazy traction control! So easy out there Lewis Hamilton.

I wish I had Lewis Hamilton skills

Nahhhh never that…

I know my limits

I had my F80 for 3 years never drove with TC off.

On my race bike you have to turn off TC to do a wheelie or rolling burn out.

I got skills 🤓

Not taking chances with a big azz expensive M3.

I was just shocked how much grip and bite the car has.

I know that same exact corner with unannounced gravel or sand has a different experience.

It's a 50 mph corner at best. Corner it's tight. Plenty of Run off with no agricultural experience or man made barriers

Every video I see, the first thing they do is turn off traction control. I guess to get every inch of power out of car, you have to.i have RWD and it's enough on roads.

This resonates so much. Have not had the courage nor roads really to floor this car out of a corner. I want too, and my younger self would have. Even with all the traction control I still fear spinning it out and feeling like a complete idiot or worse damaging something. Have some time in Spartanburg coming up in Oct and look forward exploring the limits of this amazing car.

I just got back from the one day BMW M performance school at Spartanburg. It was amazing (reviews and pics to come) I'm sure you'll love it.

What I can tell you is with dsc on the rear wheel drive M4 comps are sticky as hell when making high-speed turns etc.

On the other hand with dsc off, on a wet track the m2's slid all over the place. That was super fun

I can confirm that stickiness. Did the M Performance day at Thermal and took the M4 Comp with traction control on from 140 mph to a 60 mph corner with full input and the tires were screeching but zero slip, absolutely incredible. Any fun corner here locally now gets the full treatment of going through as fast as possible when the coast is clear. Taking the traction control off does allow for some fun slipping but you have to know your stuff and catch it quick! I recommend big parking lots for that. Track day sure educates you on how much it wants to slide out when you're on the power. Btw, the M2 is definitely not as sticky!

Thanks for the feedback. My son and I are going for the New Owners Track Drive, followed up with a couple hours of private instruction. Both your comments just re-enforce its the right thing to do to properly explore this car and have fun while doing it.

I just came back from the New Owner's Track Drive in Thermal and it was great. We autocrossed the M4C, M2C, Z4, X5M and 850i which revealed a lot about their different characters.

The M4 was far away the fastest (by my estimate, it wasn't timed) and the front end grip was tremendous. It felt perfectly balanced and the rear end could be controlled by trailbraking and throttle. It was in Sport Plus engine mode but I don't know if MDM was on.

I was really disappointed with the M2C which was an understeering mess. The front tires were howling through every corner. Not sure if it was related to the Continental tires it had on versus the standard Michelin PSS. However I believe all cars had Continentals on since they are the official tire supplier for that facility.

The Z4's short wheelbase helped it rotate around the tight corners, but it's definitely not as light and nimble as a 2 seat sports car should be.

The X5M was faster than it had any right to be. I actually had an oversteer moment when brushing the brakes going a bit too hot in a sweeping corner and it corrected nicely with some countersteer.

The 850i belongs on a highway, not an autocross course.

During the M school, did they allow you to put it into MDM or TC off during the dry portions?

Yes, 50/50 of the time, especially on the short track

Not trying to be argumentative here, but F1 cars have no traction control - it was banned many years ago (early 90's)...

I agree with the comments on the level of traction of the G8x, especially in the dry. Compared to the F8x it is in a whole different league.
I would strongly recommend a day at M school (SC or CA) where you can experiment with TC and all the other 'nannies' turned off on a wet circle and skid pad.

Launch control on x drive is just sick! I never tried it, thinking it would be fast and didn't want to stress the car out… but it's out right sick! I think it probably does 3 secs every time, there is zero wheel spin so the only factor that probably gets in the way is the road. Sorry for the random post, just sharing my excitement. Also, those car channel guys that can't launch and show these slow ramp up drag races need to be fired!

Been to many schools (fun and highly recommended) and hope to go to M school soon.

Wet circle and skid pad work are something my late father stressed when teaching us to first drive. We would drive an hour or two to a frozen lake if we could not find a good empty parking lot in winter (outside Chicago). Its more than just fun; its a survival skill.

So true! I drove down to Spartanburg last November with the M5 and did the one day M Driving School , will try to upload this video where we had to try to catch each other while we were on a wet skid pad in G80 RWD with traction/DSC off. Can't attach my video from this phone app but here's a couple screen grabs where tge Brooklyn grey car went off the track and into a ditch!

Grip on this car is indeed insane and you can easily get used to the traction control and become overconfident.
I went full power from a standstill into a corner in MDM today and had to exercise fast reflexes, the car got sideways real quick.
That being said, it was amazing how much grip it had and how relatively easy it was to correct the slide and continue powering on.
I must be honest, my heart skipped a beat, but I never felt it got completely out of control. It did catch me by surprise though given that I mostly drive aggressive with the nannies on.
Truly Jekyll and Hyde.
