Thoroughly Surprised - My Thoughts. Reply Yours
Well here I am guys- officially blown away.
I came out of hiding after three years because I wanted to know if everyone else was feeling the same. When I first saw the spy shots, I was disgusted and unamused. As an E92 owner I felt as if BMW was destroying the design language and falling hard. At first glance upon reveal, I still felt the same....Until I started watching YouTube videos of it on a 75 inch 4k TV. I'm concluding that the photos in the press kit are taken from too low of an angle, making tire gap look taller and the car high off of the ground, and the grille flatter than it actually is. After watching it from an eye level view in almost life-size form I UNDERSTAND THE DESIGN NOW. I will be purchasing a new M3 as soon as I can . Everyone who has seen it in person says the proportions make sense as well. This is definitely a car meant to make the C63 and the RS4/5 look soft. BMW is tapping into their sporting heritage tradition more than ever - even seeing how the side lines on the M4 are reminiscent to the can-like lines of the e30. Anyone else in the same boat as me? Where it took a minute for the design to process and translate into what the designer intended people to see? Leave thoughts below, I am interested in hearing others +1 day impressions. |

Wasn't sure early on but never hated it, now I love it, the videos I've seen have made me love it even more. The majority of people that don't like it are F8X owners who can't accept the changes, the rest have been told they don't like it and it's a social media world, so the majority of people don't risk going against popular opinion, then there is a very few people who actually wont buy one because they genuinely do dislike it. More available for us that want it though!
Hope that guy who said he was keeping tabs on people that hated it is doing so, will be funny in a few months to hear them backpedaling on why they like it now.

I think I agree with you. The more I look at it, the more I like it. Coming from an F82 and looking to get a G80 next year

And I'm curious how many of the haters will eventually be eyeballing your M3/M4's when you pulling up.

We get it, about 33% of y'all like it. Move on, no need to convince other people will like it later, unless you're so insecure about your feelings toward it and need others validation. |

I've seen it in full life size, stood next to it and touched it. And, nope.
It has grown on me and I'll likely get one as there is nothing else in the class and price for a coupe that is decent. It could certainly be worse, but it could be so much better.

I was a fan from the get go, so no surprises here. I was never in doubt about it, but I'll admit that seeing it on videos makes it look even better.

Why would I move on? I'm in the section for this car, where I'd love to talk to others who share my excitement for it. How about you move on and we'll all carry on enjoying it

I'm trying very very very hard to like it and warm up to it. I will refrain from full judgment until I see it in person and am willing to wait on any potential order. It's been a very long time.. maybe ever.. that I've had to convince myself this hard I liked a design from BMW.. and I was a fan of the E60......

I'm cool with it, Bucky snout and all. it will come down to how well it shakes it's stuff on the asphalt... but it will have to be a significant step up from the M340 for me to make the plunge.

I loved the design right from the start. I thought the front end was daring and the proportions of the 4 series concept were spot on. I think it's about time BMW broke from the traditional slow evolving German auto mfgs like Audi, Porsche, VW, etc. You can hardly tell when a new Audi or Porsche or VW comes out b/c they look so similar to past designs... even ones 2 generations ago.
When I saw the M3 and M4 reveal and official photos and videos, I was blown away. I even like most of the M perf parts and the quad exhaust in particular. The only things I have a problem with are not the things that people usually complain about: 1. Don't like those hood scallops at all. Destroys the flow of the front hood. 2. On the M3, the rear flares could be better integrated like the rear flares on the F80 which seems to flow better into the doors. On the G80, the rear flares are almost perpendicular to the doors and there's a mishmosh of shapes. BMW couldn't decide if they wanted the rear flares to be radial like on an F80 or horizontal like on an E30 so from various angles it looks like a mix of radial and horizontal flares. 3. I wanted to try an M4 next and was hoping they improved the flares on the M4 as the F82 had really subtle ones and they looked too similar to a regular 4 series. Unfortunately, the G82 flares are even more subtle. i can't even tell if the rear is wider than a 4 series. Thankfully, there are a lot of other styling details on the G82 that easily differentiates it from the 4 series - unfortunately just not the way too subtle fender flares. 4. M performance parts - love most of them except for the rear wing and the side skirts and rear skirt w/ those protruding vetical slats. Aside from these minor quibles, I've really enjoyed all the pictures and videos and I think the new M is an excellent and daring evolution from the F8X generation. |

The only thing standing between me and the G8X is the weight. Otherwise I am 100% there
