A braking system is only as good as the weakest link. A weak rear brake setup needs bias towards the front, which only adds additional strain to the front set.

Anyway, enough has been said on the matter. I don't understand why you would stand up defending this downgrade. It is a downgrade.
Oh ok sorry. I have an M2 Competition with big brakes kit.

I just don't see how to go from 4pot 2-pieces + 380x30mm / 2pot 370x24 to 6pot monoblock + 380x36mm / 1pot +370x24 could be considered a downgrade, even without considering the air ducts. It can only be better.

But as always, street pads, fluid and lines will be the major limitation for track use, even with 500mm rotors and 12pot calipers.

AP Racing teach us that bigger is not always better.

Completely agree on the AP statement.

I don't think anyone is concerned with the new front brake package, it's that rear caliper in particular that concerns me....and probably others.
a.) because it makes premium brake upgrades almost impossible due to the integrated e-brake.
b.) it is a downgrade from the F80 rear brake system when we mostly expect upgrades on new models.

Let's not forget, this is the braking system for an 1800-1900kg car in Competition package form. That is one heavy mofo, and a clear 200kg heavier than the F82.

a.) True. And I add the annoying process of changing the pads.
b.) Big improvement at the front (more important), small downgrade at the rest (less important). For me is a gain after all.
The M5 uses a similar brake system (same calipers, slightly bigger rotors), I wouldn't worry about the M3/4.

The G8X is heavier, more so in front and even more so for the AWD. I don’t know whether G8X’s front brakes is an upgrade as the (proportional increase in) weight has to be taken into account. It seems accepted that G8X’s rear is a downgrade.

You had a 2013 F10 M5, is it correct? Were the brakes undersized?

You are avoiding the issue that has been made repeatedly above, ie the rear brakes is a downgrade in relation to the F8X. Need not be so defensive with the G8X even if you had ordered it or decided to purchase one.

I am happy my with M2 with big brakes at the moment, I just dislike the haters.
Yes, at the rear we have a small downgrade, but at the front we have a significant upgrade, and the front is more important.
Bmw uses the rear small calipers on M5 (since the F10 days), M8, X5/6M and they are fine, but on the M3/4 (the lightest of all) they are bad. Ok

Good for you re the M2. I had my M5 for almost 8 years, and found the braking slightly unbalanced when the car is at speed, in that it was preferable to have better rear brakes. General driving is fine.

Edit: We can't say yet/whether the front has a significant upgrade when it is heavier, more so in the front and for the AWD.
