The biggest factor for me is what the real hp numbers are.

If the new cars have 525 hp and dyno at 525hp its a very different situation from if they are understating it and the new cars dyno at 540 or 550. And yes the timing of this power bump so close to the CS getting into customers hands at such a significant price premium is frustrating.

Maybe, but time will tell with CS reviews. (hopefully in the next couple of months)

Look at the M5CS with only a 10hp bump from the comp and the reviews are amazing. They did shave a lot more weight on the M5CS compared to the M3CS.

It would be disappointing for those who purchased the 24' M3 CS if they came out with a LCI CS version. Like others have said there will always be a better future version which is acceptable as long as its not a LCI CS version

Easy profit.
They already do this and charge $8000. It’s called the Competiton.

I came across this situation with the X7 LCI. I ordered the LCI which bmw advertises with 375hp compared to the pre-LCI which had 335hp. But there's no noticeable difference in performance which leads me to believe they're simply updating HP figures on paper... probably for marketing and getting them more in line with actual output.

As if buying a $1k iPhone and a $100k car are comparable. And there are industry norms and expectations. What BMW is doing with the G8X has been far out of norms and expectations. And not in a good way.

2015 M3 Price: 62K
2016 M3 Price: 63.5K (Comp package added January 2016)
2017 M3 Price: 64K (19" 437M added as option to Comp Pack Nov 2016)
2018 M3 Price: 66.5K (Silverstone removed 2/18)

iDrive 5 to iDrive 6 also occurred during the production run. I'm sure there are other changes as well that I don't have the time to research.

Of course they are understating it.
But so do they understate everything.

It’ll likely be a commensurate bump in Hp, relative to today’s car, which is to say… not much.

Haha they do but I'm certain the LCI will get tweaks beyond cosmetic with the comp pack vs. Pre.

Its nothing u would even be able to notice anyway. They will probably do small changes like different tail lights, maybe slight front bumper change.

But CS and is more of the fact that it’s limited production. They will always have more value and down the road with be more desirable.
It’s not per say how many HP it comes with, even though I completely understand what u are saying.
There will be many comps and few cs. People won’t care that LCI comp is similar HP.

Yeah, this car is so underpowered it really needs the horsepower... could have instead cut weight and not bother with engine development, and made car faster. Never understood why THAT cant be a facelit. And new nose would be nice obviously, just some tweaks.

Curious to see if these cars make more power or they are they are just reporting what's already there.

Wonder if steering feel or suspension tuning will adjust as well.

THIS 100%! If it's simply a tune, why not offer it up to the pre-LCI crew as a "performance power kit" with the N54/N55 engine.

I feel like any G8X owner would gladly hand over their money for a few more HP covered by warranty.

You're in luck, it's called a CS. Look it up. Minus the nose job of course because it already looks fucking fantastic.

One other factor is that the G87 is coming out and it's too close in performance. Another prospect is that they need to make room in the future for an M2C.

The CS has never been just about HP increase, unless they just mailed in the CS-ness (we’ll have to see what reviews say).

But it’s tough to gauge what’s up with BMW. There are amazing new cars like the xdrive M3 and M3 touring, and total disasters like the XM. Time will tell if the CS is a “real CS” or just a tune and some weight reduction and CSL parts.
