Production started - no chance of swapping to buckets?

Been going back and forth on the buckets, this am I said F it I'm getting them but my excitement was short lived..,.just when I was about to hit up the dealer, he texted saying congrats production started today with a 6/9 build and it's too late to change - absolutely no way of making a change.

Disappointed I didn't make the decision earlier but excited either way, I'm sure I'll get over it. I'm still in line for an M3, so whenever that comes around maybe I'll swap if values are still up and I really want the buckets.

Does anyone know how true it is that you cannot change? It was all within hours, he said one of his customers called BMW and they cancelled the allocation.

Yeah, at this point that car hasn't had anything started on it but the majority of the parts have been sourced and accounted for and it is being given a slot in the actual assembly line cue for a week or so out start date. All that said the answer is definitely nothing can be changed if you want to keep the same timeline and more than likely nothing can be changed at all unless you have an in with someone at the factory…

Only option would be to cancel with the dealer and go to the back of the line but not trying to ruin the relationship either.

He said they don't sell cars built up like this often since most ppl prefer to custom build their Ms.

Yeah if he was on the fence for that long he doesn't really want it. I was also the same and but at the end of the day I rather have comfort and ass coolers installed. This is a huge topic after awd vs rwd... On the main forum... The stock seats are beautiful as is.

I always wanted them, kept hesitating because of them being a pain in the ass for my wife to ride in.

Finally found a dealer with a car that had them, sat on them and they were very tight…but after going back to the sport seats they felt huge so it made me want to sacrifice the discomfort a little bit.

I'm sure once I have it I'll be happy either way, and more comfortable.

Don't know if I would generelize like this but if he doesn't do 8+ track days a year I'd say don't bother with the buckets.

I want them, they make the car feel special.

Any idea how to get out of it now that production started?

Unfortunately you can't. Your car has a VIN which corresponds to all the options and specs. It's the cars birth certificate. It can't be changed.

You can buy them aftermarket but that will cost you a small fortune.

It's either that or get back on the waitlist. You potentially could sell this car for a premium when you receive it and buy a used M3 with the buckets on the secondary market. It could be a wash.

No more changes can be made to this particular build.

I couldn't believe they were $23k.

You're better off waiting a few years, buying a used G80 with buckets, take out the buckets, put in sports seats and selling it and would probably cost you less

Wow, $23k. That's nuts....So the implication is that the 'base' seats are $19k. That seems way out of line with reality. Or did I misunderstand something?

And on a related topic, when you buy a port installed option (ie: MP Exhaust, or different wheels), what happens to the stuff that came on your car, that you already paid for? The prices to add these things seem like full boat retail, so what happens to the brand new wheels that might be taken off? Do you get them back, I've not heard of this happeneing, do you get some credit for them or something else?

They keep them. A few benefits. No labor cost. It's added to the window sticker/MSRP which really helps when you lease as they are residualized too. Even floor mats. Also, professionally installed and warrantied.

Not necessarily. Retail prices on replacement parts are often significantly higher than when optioning them in the first place. I think I saw the engine alone costs $45k. Anyone who's got the buckets and wants the standard sport seats could most likely find someone with bucket envy to trade with, and even then make a few bucks on the transaction. I don't know of anyone who's bought the base seats at retail.

No credit, and no extra parts delivered. You can often save on such parts by ordering through https://www.getbmwparts.com/ (or others), plus it adds time to the VPC process, so I think the port-instal option is only worthwhile for labor-intensive installations (i.e. not floor mats or cargo nets).

I don't think there will be a premium for this one because it's loaded with every option so those are always harder to sell.

I don't want to burn the bridge with my dealer either though, but may be the only option and let him keep my 1k deposit.

Buckets are a $3,800 option. Or at least that's what I was going to pay before I changed them.

Didn't give me any options, just said it's hard for him to sell a car that's a custom build and i would be screwing him
