Thoughts on Exhaust After Software Upgrade 21-07?
Has anyone noticed the livelier exhaust on the G8X after the most recent remote software upgrade (21-07)? I just picked up my car from the dealership after an oil service/software update and notice a big difference in the exhaust note when upshifting, like a quick three pops from one gear to the next. The update does explain “a refinement of the sound when starting the engine and clearer audio confirmation when shifting gears (only in conjunction with 8-speed M Steptronic) and shifting loads.” It does not sound any different when downshifting to me but a step in the right direction? Perhaps not. What are your thoughts?

How did you get the upgrade? I keep reading about it but every time I check in the car or through the app, it says no upgrade is available.

Mine is a ‘22 delivered in Nov, and it already had this s/w from the factory.
Obviously, I can’t comment on the difference vs. the previous version, but the exhaust note is quite muted IMO. A friend of mine driving alongside my car said it sounded great but all I heard was the ASD lol. Now with the added aftermarket sub, the overrun pop/bang is more of a boom. I need to code out the ASD ASAP |

I'm still thoroughly underwhelmed.

2021 Agreed. Quite honestly, I think it is worse. The "audible confirmation" gives three successive pops, which are delayed about a second and sound like there is something wrong, especially when upshifting out of a turn--it sounds like you are skipping gears or they are not engaging properly. Not a fan at all. Glad I already ordered the AA single mid pipe a couple weeks ago. Now I am just hoping it does not exacerbate the issue.

It sounds as though the 2022 models already have this "upgrade"? Can anyone confirm if that is in fact the case? Is it reversible?
It is difficult to explain the sound, but the closest comparison I can illustrate is as if your back tires kiss the edge of a rumble strip or you driving over three small bumps in the road. You do not feel it, but can audibly hear a quick burp-bur-burp. I am not sure I would call it an "upgrade" and it is certainly not "refined" IMO, but it should make us feel good that BMW is actively listening to feedback and offering remote updates, which is quite amazing in itself.

The fake sounds through the speakers are so annoying. I wish they wouldn't "enhance" anything even more with further updates.
I'm still on 07/2021.62. |

The update sucks. All it did was turn ASD up to 11. Coded that stuff out right after, car is 10 times better without the fake crap.
