Most exciting car I've ever owned! Nothing like clearing your mind with a good drive!
The one good thing I remember while in the throes of the C virus shut down (biggest government mistake in history) was NO TRAFFIC and getting in my M3 CS and driving almost every night. It was hot in Las Vegas during the day but cool at night and I would roll the windows down and just start driving. I had no particular place to go, and never knew which way I was going to turn. I just drove, and considering there was hardly any police cars out either….I drove fast. It was joyous.

I thought about having a shop customize a titanium midpipe that fully replaces the unique CSL/CS midpipe - something very similar to the Valvetronic unit but slips onto the OEM muffler versus their box. However, that would be more motivated by weight reduction as I'm perfectly happy with my current exhaust volume and sound.

To my knowledge the mid-pipe is the same part number as a reg G80/G82 it’s just the muffler that is titanium in which BMW cuts and uses clamps to fit mid-pipe to titanium rear can. I don’t understand what the difference would be if you installed a mid-pipe and cut it by the middle dimple of the mid-pipe which should be fully reversible with just using clamps.

So if I had my dealer replace the midpipe (say for bad cats), I’d have to pay for the whole unit only to have the muffler cutoff and discarded? Not sure how accurate that is. I do agree that there is no difference in material, resonators, etc. I understand reversibility using sleeves, but it could impact resale on such a limited model. Also, after the muffler is cutoff I doubt it slips right onto the Ti muffler - may need to use an expander. With that said, I will be cutting mine but would like clarity on what it takes to be “fully” reversed (OEM uncut).

If you had bad cats I’m assuming they would sell you the mid section without the muffler and they would cut and clamp to your exhaust where the middle dimple is as shown in the picture where the m performance exhaust install shows. On the CSL/CS titanium muffler from the factory they cut and clamp as shown in the last picture circled in red which to me is odd bc you would expect them to cut by the middle dimple. If you look up the CS/CSL titanium part number it shows as it would be installed and cut by the middle dimple (shown in picture marked CSL in red). Point being is if you install most aftermarket midpipe it would require you cutting at the middle dimple (shown in the m per exhaust install) (and picture of CS/CSL exhaust part number) so I would doubt it would effect anything as that’s how BMW would replace or install your midpipe and exhaust.
Funny looking back I see you were the one who provided me the part number for the CSL exhaust. I have a CS coming and like you I did not want to cut my exhaust only to realize it would be a waste to buy a new 5k rear section and having to cut anyways at the middle dimple.

Wow - thanks for taking the time to put this together. Makes total sense, even down to why BMW made dimple marks to begin with. I will be doing this soon without any reservations. Cheers!

We have a white alpine available near me at MSRP, and I need it like I need another hole in my head.

Congrats on an awesome purchase.

Really appreciate all the insight.

AA Single Midpipe is going in this week
Stay tuned for updates

I did unplug my exhaust valves over the weekend while they were in the open position (During Cold start).

I absolutely hated the result
Yes it was slightly louder however it lost all exhaust tone.
This rear Titanium Muffler adds a lot of tone.

I think Mid-pipe with the CSL Titanium rear is the way to go

AA Single Mid pipe installed | Sound is epic

AA Single Mid pipe installed
Yes a cut is needed - Stainless clamps used and done.

The end result is epic.

The tone on the CSL is different then a regular G8X
Its much less raspy and high pitched from the factory with little to no burbles on the RPM decent.

Adding the single AA Midpipe not only cuts another -25-30lbs but it also allows much better flow
The OEM Center portion - 2 CATS | 2 OPF's is identical to G8X and is very restrictive & heavy.

Installing the AA Midpipe adds to the higher pitched tone of the CSL.
At low RPMS you can hear its a little louder | at cold start its 50% louder then OEM | At 3500+ RPM the tone is exotic | 60% louder then OEM and it's such a clean tone.

I've owned 5 ///M's and never have they sounded like this. The tone is high pitched - no drone - very smooth and sounds incredible.

Please post a sound clip! Confirm no codes with midpipe replacement. I have a M3 CS en route and will likely want to tinker with the exhaust note...

I haven’t took a picture of my garage during winter but here’s it without the cars. For flooring I have Swisstrax. They have a garage floor editor on their site so you can play with designs and ideas. The tiles are super easy to install and maintain. I just vacuum them out with a shop vac.

I'll try to get a sound clip up soon
No codes - its just a midpipe - Your O2 sensors are in your primary cats located in the downpipes

You'll have zero regrets with adding a midpipe
