I loved it how Matt Watson doesn't make it easy for that marketing guy. Anything that doesn't make sense or is BS like the fake vents on the sides or the rear end not being wide enough, he called out. These product marketing guys are just used to going through their scripts without any interruption and are not used to being questioned like that. I also always love it when in these product demoes a competitor's name gets dropped and the marketing dude has to pretend that he didn't hear the question. They have this unspoken rule where the competitor's name cannot be said out loud, lol.

For most people who buy performance cars, this C63 will probably outperform an M3/M4 on the street.

Even if you were to take both cars to the track, i highly doubt people have enough skillset to really differentiate between the 2 in terms of what is a "better" track car. The M still might be a better track car on paper. But in real world, when you have average ass joes driving these cars, does it really matter? You're going out there to have fun in the car you're in.

That said. The only thing i don't like about this C63 is the 4cyl. However the hybrid system sounds incredible.

I hope BMW does this for the M3/M4 before it goes fully electric.

Although an M3 EV will be insane.

4 cylinder and 4700lbs.. no thanks. Also the 670hp seems to be only achievable for 10seconds. Then you’re left with ~560hp which is what the G8x has at the crank at 900 lbs lighter.
If I want a faster, even fatter car than my M5 with no soul I would just get a plaid instead of this AMG that has no idea what it’s trying to be.

I was with you all along until this. They sound amazing. Lots of modulation. Crackles and pops. I’d argue it’s the best sounding amg engine to date. The M3 beats my AMG in every catagory, but it sounds like farts compared to the 4.0. You said it was a hot take so you can have your opinion! I don’t expect to be popular saying the m3 sounds like farts!

C63 sounds boring, these so called performance cars are chasing EV 0-60 hype, the 3 seconds of glory in a straight line, I'm tired of it.... just got myself a 23' jeep rubicon XR, the forums are popping there too… my g83 will be chilling a bit more in the garage.. sorry for the randomness.

Car looks great. Weight isnt but that's what you end up with when you add a hybrid system.

Anyway , don't expect any real reviews from Amg fanboys.
I think more people buying these types of cars don't really give a shit about ring times and road course handling. With all this EV stuff going on , 0-60 is what everyone seems to be attracted to these days. I just don't think people are buying a4500 pound merc and running to their local road course.

Is 3.3 the real number? I just saw Joe Achilles pull a 2.99 in his personal vehicle just the other day. That said, I like the entertainment layout better than the G80 curved screen. That is about it though....I wanted it to be awesome but it left me with too many questions...

"The maximum 201-hp output from the motor is available via a boost function that can operate for 10 seconds at a time, while the continuous horsepower number is 94 hp."

What does that mean? So normally it has 564hp? How long is the 10 second cooldown?

I feel this is more on an i4M50 competitor.

Stoplight races? That's juvenile anyway. I'm more interested in real track numbers.

I'm quite sure that driving a 6MT M3 will be more fun than a hybrid AMG weighing 900 pounds more. If "fun" to you is just instant torque, why not just buy a Model 3P and be done with it?

It sounds incredibly high strung, complicated, and even more in-need of fake exhaust noises. Also more likely to be expensive to maintain.

I hope BMW retains an inline-six with whatever hybrid system they devise. And pays more attention to weight gains than Mercedes.

How does it weigh that much? When I was in Intermediate/High School we had a couple first gen Ford Expeditions...they were about 4800 for the base model. Wow.

No, man. It's a "63", which signifies... a 6.3 liter-esque level of torque! Whereas the M50 has merely a 5.0 liter-esque.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. This C63 is within 100# of a Mercedes S580.

When was the last time you redlined your engine?

Here we go again with "more fun". You can say it's more fun, but that means TO YOU. I have a manual car and i have more "fun" in my M3. Even though my manual car sounds better, looks better and much faster.

Btw i have a model 3 LR with acceleration boost. 3.7 0-60 consistently. Next tesla will be a plaid.

That's why i said only thing i don't like is the 4cyl. No 4cyl sounds good to me. Also, our cars come with pump in audio as well. No it doesn't mimic anything other than the engine we already have. But it's still an artificial sound.

That's what i meant. I hope BMW gives the M3 it's S58 along with a hybrid system sometime before the M3/M4 goes all electric. Would be cool to see the transition.

Weight will always be an issue until battery technology catches up, which it will. People really need to stop looking at this technology and claiming it will be ONLY this way from here on out.

It only gets better with time.

The other thing to mention besides the weight is the horsepower figure is on overboost, which you get 10 seconds at a time. Otherwise, it has 570hp at all times. Coupled with the weight, this won't be much of a fun car if the roads get twisty.

That being said, the new C class interior is extremely impressive and is something my wife is looking forward to since she's getting a C300. I stepped out of one and into my G80 and felt like I stepped into the past. The C300's interior is miles ahead of everything in its segment, just IMHO of course. The central iPad isn't the best to use and I like the flow of the lines in the G80 interior, but it felt like I was in something way more expensive in the C300 overall.

The C63 had always been a rival to the M3 in the past, but I don't think we can say that anymore. Unless the engineers in Affalterbach have somehow made the weight disappear and made the C63 a capable car on track, it just isn't a rival to the M3 anymore. The previous gen C63S with its glorious 4.0 V8 wasn't the most capable at putting its power down, but it didn't feel like a boat and felt pretty capable in the right hands (definitely not mine). But it'll be tough to say the same about this new one if it isn't able to defy the laws of physics because of its weight. I doubt I'll test drive this new one like I did the previous C63, but it'll be a hard pass for me simply because of the engine - there's no instance where a 4 cylinder will sound better than a 6.

The new C63 plays engine noise through EXTERNAL speakers. That's a whole different level of sad.
